Michael Alexander Blake (born December 25,1982) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. He formerly served as a New York Assemblyman from the 79th district and was the Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2017 to 2021.
Blake was born on December 25,1982,in the Bronx to parents who had immigrated from Jamaica. [1] He was named after Michael Manley and Alexander Bustamante. [2] After graduating from New York City public schools,Blake went on to attend and graduate from Northwestern University with a degree in journalism. [3] While at Northwestern,he served as student council president and was close friends with Jason Wright,who later became the first black president of a National Football League team upon his hiring by the Washington Commanders in 2020. [4]
Blake began his career working in the Michigan House of Representatives and for Illinois State Senator Jeffrey Schoenberg. [5] [6]
Blake served as the Iowa deputy political director for Barack Obama in the 2008 United States presidential election,and following his election to the presidency,Blake became associate director of public engagement and the deputy associate director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. [7] He served as the national deputy director of Operation Vote for President,Obama’s 2012 re-election. [8] Blake was noted in Jet magazine as one of nine black politicos behind President Obama’s re-election. [9]
In 2013,he served as the campaign manager for Reshma Saujani for New York City Public Advocate. [10] He helped to found the Atlas Strategy Group,which focuses on policy issues for communities of color. [11]
In 2014,Assemblyman Eric Stevenson was found guilty on corruption charges and was required to vacate his seat. [12] Blake entered the race to replace him. [13] His own candidacy was not without controversy,and the Bronx Democratic Party,who did not support his candidacy,claimed he was not actually a resident of the Bronx. [14] Despite these setbacks,Blake won the Democratic primary over five other candidates. [15] He easily won the general election with nearly 92% of the vote.
Blake was sworn in for his first term on December 15,2014. He was the Chair of the Subcommittee on Mitchell-Lama and is a member of the Corrections,Housing,Banks,Veterans,Election Law and Governmental Operations committees. [16]
Blake did not seek re-election in 2020;instead,he ran for U.S. House of Representatives. [17]
In 2018,Blake announced his candidacy for New York City Public Advocate. [18] He lost to City Councilmember Jumaane Williams in a crowded race with 17 other candidates. [19]
In 2019, Blake announced his campaign for New York's 15th congressional district; the then-current Representative, José E. Serrano, had announced his retirement from Congress. [20] He lost, finishing in second place behind winner Ritchie Torres in the Democratic primary. [21]
Blake is close friends with Jason Wright, a classmate of his at Northwestern who later became the first black president of a National Football League (NFL) franchise upon his hiring by the Washington Commanders in 2020. [22]

Keith L. T. Wright is an American politician and a former member of the New York State Assembly. He was first elected to the assembly in 1992 and was re-elected eleven times. In early 2007, he proposed a bill limiting retail sale of violent video games for individuals below 18 years of age. This proposed law stirred up controversy and protest amongst gamer communities. Wright is also the author of the bill to apologize for African slavery in New York, which was second only to South Carolina in the American slave trade, the first Northern State make such an apology. Wright is also credited with coining the term "Super-Duper Tuesday" in response to the shifting of New York's election primary date to the 5th of February. This is now the common terminology for the change of dates nationwide.

Grimm, a member of the Republican Party, announced on December 30, 2014, that he would resign from the House effective January 5, 2015, and not take his seat for a third term following his guilty plea for tax evasion. On May 5, 2015, Republican candidate Dan Donovan defeated his Democratic challenger Vincent Gentile in the election and filled the vacant seat.
The 2018 New York gubernatorial election occurred on November 6, 2018. Incumbent Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo won re-election to a third term, defeating Republican Marc Molinaro and several minor party candidates. Cuomo received 59.6% of the vote to Molinaro's 36.2%.
The 2019 New York City Public Advocate special election was held on February 26, 2019, to fill part of the unexpired term of Letitia James's vacated seat as New York City Public Advocate. It was triggered on January 1, 2019, when James resigned to take office as Attorney General of New York.
The 2022 New York gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor and lieutenant governor of New York. Kathy Hochul ascended to the governorship in August 2021, upon Andrew Cuomo's resignation following allegations of sexual harassment. She sought a full term as governor. She appointed Brian Benjamin to the position of lieutenant governor and planned to run alongside him until he too resigned in April 2022. Congressman Antonio Delgado was appointed to replace Benjamin as lieutenant governor. Hochul defeated Jumaane Williams and Tom Suozzi in the Democratic primary for governor, while Delgado defeated Ana Maria Archila and Diana Reyna in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor.
The 2021 New York City mayoral election was held on November 2, 2021. Incumbent Mayor Bill de Blasio was term-limited and ineligible to run for re-election.
The 2021 New York City borough president elections were held on November 2, 2021. Four of the five incumbent borough presidents were unable to run for reelection due to term limits. Only the Queens borough president was eligible to seek re-election after winning a special election in 2020.

Eric Dinowitz is an American teacher and politician. Dinowitz represents the 11th district of the New York City Council. Dinowitz is a registered Democrat. Dinowitz was elected in a special election held on March 23, 2021, after the resignation of Andrew Cohen, who was elected to the New York Supreme Court. Dinowitz assumed office on April 15, 2021 after weeks of the New York City Board of Elections counting ranked-choice voting ballots which were instituted for municipal elections beginning in 2021.
