Michael Andrew Shanahan (born December 28, 1989) is an American football coach and former player. He played college football as a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Panthers and was signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He is currently the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Indiana Hoosiers.
Shanahan attended Norwin High School in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. [1] He was selected to the Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AAAA All-State First-team. [2] He was a Division I prospect in both football and basketball while at Norwin High School. [1] He was selected to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "Fabulous 22" [3] and selected to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review "Terrific 25". [4] He also was selected to The Patriot-News "Platinum 33". [1] He was three-time first-team All-Foothills Conference selection. [1] He was ranked as No. 16 overall prospect of Pennsylvania according to Scout.com. [1] He was ranked as the No. 21 prospect by SuperPrep, ranked as the No. 24 prospect by Keystone Recruiting and also was ranked as the No. 37 prospect by Rivals.com. [1] He was ranked No. 52 on Scout's East Top 100 list. [1] He was selected to the PrepStar All-East Region, SuperPrep All-Northeast Team and was selected to play in the Big 33 Football Classic. [1] He also was selected to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette "Fabulous Five" [1] and was a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review "Terrific 10" honoree. [5] He played basketball and AAU basketball teammate of former Pittsburgh Panthers and former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Jon Baldwin. [1]
Shanahan redshirted as a true freshman and did not play the entire season. [1] In his freshman season, Shanahan recorded 15 receptions and 211 receiving yards. [6] He was selected to the Big East All-Academic Football Team. [6] In his sophomore season, Shanahan had 43 receptions, 589 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown. [6] He was selected to the Big East All-Academic Football Team for the second straight season. [7] In his junior season, Shanahan had 39 receptions, 493 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns. [6] He was selected to the Big East All-Academic Football Team for the third consecutive season. [8] In his senior season, Shanahan had 62 receptions, 983 receiving yards, and six receiving touchdowns. [6] He was selected to the second-team All-Big East team following the conclusion of the season. He was selected to the Big East All-Academic Football Team for the fourth consecutive season. [9]
On April 27, 2013, he signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. [10] He was released on August 22, 2013. [11]
On August 26, 2013, Shanahan signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. [12] On August 27, 2013, he was waived by the Buccaneers. [13]
Shanahan began his coaching career at Pittsburgh in 2014 as a volunteer assistant before being promoted to graduate assistant in 2015. He went on to coach at IUP and Elon as a wide receivers coach under Curt Cignetti.
Shanahan joined Cignetti once again, this time at James Madison in 2018 as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2021. [14]
Following the 2023 season, Cignetti was hired as the new head football coach of the Indiana Hoosiers. It was soon after reported that Shanahan would follow as the offensive coordinator for the Hoosiers. [15]

Ashley Jovon Lelie is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Hawaii Warriors and was selected by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2002 NFL draft with the 19th overall pick.
Antwaan Randle El is an American football coach and former player who currently serves as the wide receivers coach for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football as a quarterback for the Indiana Hoosiers, earning first-team All-American honors in 2001. He also played basketball and baseball for the Hoosiers. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft. Playing with the Steelers for four seasons as a wide receiver and return specialist, he was active in all 64 regular season games with 23 starts. He was also instrumental in a number of trick plays, including throwing a touchdown pass as a wide receiver for the Steelers in Super Bowl XL.

Joseph Scott Galloway is an American former professional football player who is an analyst with ESPN. He was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Galloway was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the eighth overall pick of the 1995 NFL draft, and also played for the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins. He played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Derek Steven Hagan Jr. is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the third round of the 2006 NFL draft. He played college football for the Arizona State Sun Devils. Hagan also played for the New York Giants, Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders, and Tennessee Titans.
The Indiana Hoosiers football program represents Indiana University Bloomington in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football and in the Big Ten Conference. The Hoosiers have played their home games at Memorial Stadium since 1960. The team has won the Big Ten Championship twice, once in 1945 and again in 1967. The Hoosiers have appeared in 12 bowl games, including the 1968 Rose Bowl. Six Indiana players have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, including Zora Clevinger, Bill Ingram, Pete Pihos, George Taliaferro, John Tavener, and Anthony Thompson, who was also National Player of the Year in 1989. Frank Cignetti Sr. was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at West Virginia University from 1976 to 1979 and at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) from 1986 to 2005, compiling a career college football record of 199–77–1. Cignetti led the IUP Indians to the title game of the NCAA Division II Football Championship in 1990 and 1993. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2013.
Frank Cignetti Jr. is an American football coach who was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Panthers. Before Pitt, he was the offensive coordinator at Boston College and the quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He has also been the quarterbacks coach for the New York Giants in 2016 and 2017. Prior to that, he served as the quarterbacks coach for the St. Louis Rams from 2012 to 2014 and offensive coordinator for the Rams in 2015.

He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. He played college football at Pittsburgh. Baldwin also played for the San Francisco 49ers.
