Miriam Albano (born 1991) is an Italian opera singer (soprano). She has won numerous international competitions and was a soloist at the Vienna State Opera until 2019.
Born in Venice, Albano comes from a family of musicians. Her father is a violist and her mother a pianist, while her grandfather began his career as a prompter at La Scala in Milan and at La Fenice in Venice and was active as a conductor in numerous operas in the 1950s. [1] She started her musical education at the age of seven at the Conservatorio di Musica Benedetto Marcello. After studying violin for 8 years, she completed her first vocal studies with Stella Silva and graduated with honors. [2] In Vienna she took up further vocal studies with Claudia Visca at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, graduating in 2017 in the Master programme Art Song and Oratorio with Robert Holl, Stephan Matthias Lademann, and Charles Spencer with highest honors and as winner of the mdw Appreciation Award (2018). [3] She completed her musical education by participating in international master classes with KS Brigitte Fassbaender, Helmut Deutsch, Malcom Martineau, Anne Sofie von Otter and Ann Murray, among others. As a member of the 2016 Young Singers Project, she appeared at the Salzburg Festival in the opera for children The Fairy-Queen for Children in the leading role as Puck. [4]
From 2016 to 2019, Miriam Albano was a soloist in the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera, where she debuted in February 2016 as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and as Annio in La Clemenza di Tito , conducted by Ádám Fischer. [5] She also appeared as Cherubino at Vienna's Schlosstheater Schönbrunn, at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma in a new production by Graham Vick, and at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence (season 2018-2019). Further, she debuted as Rosina in Laurent Pelly's production of Barbiere di Siviglia, conducted by Marc Minkowski at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. [6] At Deutsche Oper am Rhein, she made her debut as Angelina in La Cenerentola , produced by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. [7] In the 2019-2020 season, she debuted as Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Stephano in Romeo et Juliette , also at Deutsche Oper am Rhein. [8]
In August 2020, she performed the role of Rosina in Barbiere di Seviglia for the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma at the Circus Maximus in Rome, conducted by Stefano Montanari. [9] She performed the role of Melanto in Il ritorno di Ulisse in Patria in June 2021 at the Maggio Musicale in Florence conducted by Ottavio Dantone in a new production by Robert Carsen, recorded by Naxos Records.
In September 2021 she gave her debut at the Teatro Regio di Torino in Il Barbiere di Seviglia . This was followed by a concert performance of La Clemenza di Tito in November 2021, where she appeared in the role of Annio at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. In January 2022, she debuted the role of Autonoe from the opera Orfeo by Nicola Porpora at the Theater an der Wien and the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. [10] In April 2022, she appeared as Despina in the opera Così fan tutte at the Gran Teatre del Liceu conducted by Marc Minkowski and staged by Ivan Alexander. [11]
On the international concert stage, Miriam Albano's performances have included Les Nuits d'été by Berlioz, conducted by Leopold Hager at the Radio Kulturhaus in Vienna, and programme of arias with the ensemble Il Gene Barocco at the Gstaad New Years Music Festival. [12] Furthermore, she appeared with the ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre for the 68th Festival Internacional de Santander with Mozart's Great Mass in C minor, K427 conducted by Marc Minkowski. In November 2019, she performed at the Tonhalle Zurich under the baton of Alondra de la Parra. [13]
Herbert Wernicke was a German opera director and a set and costume designer. He was born in Auggen, Baden-Württemberg. He studied piano, flute, and directing at the conservatory in Braunschweig and set design at the academy in Munich. After starting out as set and costume designer in Landshut and Wuppertal, and directing his first play in Darmstadt, he directed his first opera, Handel's Belshazzar, in 1978 in Darmstadt. The majority of Wernicke's artistic work was at the theater in Basel, where he lived since 1990.
Teresa Żylis-Gara was a Polish operatic soprano who enjoyed a major international career from the 1950s through the 1990s.
Radmila Bakočević, is a Serbian operatic soprano who had a major international opera career that began in 1955 and ended upon her retirement from the stage in 2004. During her career, she sang at most of the world's important opera houses, including performances throughout Europe, North and South America. Oksana Lyniv is a Ukrainian conductor, since 2022 music director of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. She founded the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in 2016. She conducted on 25 July 2021 the opening of the Bayreuth Festival, a new production of Der fliegende Holländer, as the first female conductor at the festival.
Anny Felbermayer was an Austrian soprano in opera and concert. The lyric soprano was a long-term member of the Vienna State Opera. She appeared in many operas by Richard Strauss, including the premiere of his Die Liebe der Danae at the Salzburg Festival in 1952.
Sophie Koch is a French operatic mezzo-soprano who made an international career, performing Rosina in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Royal Opera House, the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss at the Semperoper in Dresden, and Charlotte in Massenet's Werther at the Paris Opera, among others. Grace Hoffman was an American operatic mezzo-soprano and academic teacher. Based at the Staatsoper Stuttgart from 1955 to 1992, she performed roles such as Verdi's Azucena and Eboli at leading opera houses in Europe and the Americas. Her signature role was Wagner's Brangäne, performed at the Bayreuth Festival, among others.

Anny Helm, later also Anny Helm-Sbisà, was an Austrian operatic soprano. She was a member of the ensemble at the Stadttheater Magdeburg and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and gave guest performances at numerous German theatres and at the Bayreuth Festival, in Vienna, Paris, London, Brussels and Buenos Aires as well as at all the major opera houses in Italy. She was one of the most sought-after dramatic sopranos of her time.
Vasilisa Berzhanskaya is a Russian operatic mezzo-soprano. Her repertoire encompasses roles of the Italian bel canto of Rossini and Bellini, Mozart, Baroque music such as Vivaldi and Purcell, and roles from Russian opera, by composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky. Though Berzhanskaya is a mezzo-soprano, in the past she has sung roles ranging from dramatic coloratura soprano to contralto. As such, she has been described as possessing "a huge vocal range in which she display[s] impeccable coloratura."
Margarita Vitalievna Gritskova is a Russian mezzo-soprano in opera and lied singing. A member of the Vienna State Opera since 2012, she is focused on roles by Rossini such as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia and La Cenerentola, but has also performed in Baroque opera and contemporary works such as Tri sestri by Péter Eötvös.
Silvia Tro Santafé is a Spanish lyric-coloratura mezzo-soprano. In her early career she was best known for her interpretations of Handel and became notable for her performances of Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, and in recent years Verdi.
Pier Giorgio Morandi is an Italian oboist and conductor, especially of Italian opera of the 19th and early 20th century, who has worked internationally. After having played as principal oboe at La Scala in Milan, he turned to conducting, holding positions at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest, Royal Swedish Opera and Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. He recorded productions of Verdi's Il trovatore at the Verona Arena and Puccini's Madama Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera.
