The Miss Minnesota USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Minnesota in the Miss USA pageant. It is directed by Future Productions based in Savage, Minnesota since its inception in 1995, which also directs the state pageants for Colorado, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming. [1]

Contents

Barbara Elaine Peterson was the first Miss Minnesota USA to be crowned Miss USA (in 1976), and was also the first Miss USA to not place in the Miss Universe pageant. Her sister, Polly Peterson Bowles, was Miss Minnesota USA 1981. [2]

In 2016, Halima Aden became the first contestant to compete wearing a burkini, and the first to wear a hijab the entire time. [3] In 2017, Mikayla Holmgren was the first woman with Down syndrome to compete in a statewide Miss USA pageant. [4]

The current titleholder is Sarah Anderson of Maple Grove was crowned on July 30, 2023, at Ames Center in Burnsville. She represented Minnesota at Miss USA 2023.

Miss USA 2018 was the 67th Miss USA pageant. It was held on May 21, 2018 at the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana. Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey hosted for the first time, while Carson Kressley and Lu Sierra served as commentators and was broadcast on Fox for the third consecutive year. Additionally, it featured performances by 98 Degrees and Lee Brice. Kára McCullough of District of Columbia crowned her successor Sarah Rose Summers of Nebraska at the end of the event, becoming the first woman from her state to win the title. Summers represented the United States at the Miss Universe 2018 pageant on December 17, 2018 in Bangkok, and placed in the Top 20.

Miss World USA 1977 was the 16th edition of the Miss World USA pageant, held in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The title was won by Cindy Darlene Miller of Virginia. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Kimberly Marre Foley of Michigan. Miller went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1977 Pageant in London later that year. She finished as 4th runner-up at Miss World.

Miss World USA 1969 was the 8th edition of the Miss World USA pageant and it was held in the Baltimore Civic Center in Baltimore, Maryland and was won by Gail Renshaw of Virginia. She was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Johnine Leigh Avery of Washington. Renshaw went on to represent the United States at the Miss World 1969 Pageant in London later that year. She finished as 1st Runner-Up at Miss World. After competing at Miss World, Renshaw resigned her title to get married. Renshaw was replaced by Connie Lee Haggard of Texas who was the 1st Runner-Up of Miss World USA.

Miss USA 2021 was the 70th Miss USA pageant, held at the Paradise Cove Theater of River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma on 29 November 2021. The edition marked the first year of the competition under Crystle Stewart's directorship.
