The United Sabah Party is a political party of Sabah. The PBS was founded by Joseph Pairin Kitingan in 1985 and it is Sabah's oldest local party. In August 2020,PBS confirmed that they would be using their own logo and flag until Sabah's local coalition is established under Registrar of Societies (RoS). In 2022,Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is the only Sabah's local coalition that has been successfully registered under the Registrar of Societies (RoS) making PBS interested in using the coalition's logo and becoming part of the coalition's component.
Dr. Mohamad Khir bin Toyo was the former Chief Minister of the state of Selangor in Malaysia from 2000 to 2008. His Barisan Nasional (BN) government was defeated in the 2008 general election,following which he served as the state's Opposition Leader until December 2010. He has been a member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly since 1999,for the seat of Sungai Panjang. Datuk Seri Panglima Md Salleh bin Md Said,commonly known as Salleh Said Keruak,is a Malaysian politician who was Chief Minister of the state of Sabah from 1994 to 1996. He was Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2015 and has served as Minister of Information and Communications of Malaysia since 29 July 2015 until 10 May 2018. He also serves as a Senator in the Dewan Negara;previously he was the state assemblyman for the electoral district of Usukan. He is the son of Mohammad Said Keruak,who served as Chief Minister as well as Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah.

He was also member of the Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM),member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU),a component party of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalitions,member of the Heritage Party (WARISAN) and member of the PBS. He has also served as the 1st State Chairman of PBM of Sabah from August 2022 to his resignation from the party in January 2023. On 30 October 2021,he left WARISAN and became independent in support for GRS. Later,he officially became a member of BERSATU on 26 November 2021. However on 28 June 2022,he left BERSATU and became independent again in support for BN and GRS ruling coalitions after joining it only seven months prior. He then joined PBM and was appointed as its State Chairman of Sabah exactly two months later after leaving BERSATU on 28 August 2022.On 6 January 2023,he left PBM and joined UMNO and supported its withdrawal of support for GRS that triggered the 2023 Sabah political crisis.

The 2020–2022 Malaysian political crisis was caused by several members of the 14th parliament (MPs) changing party support,leading to the loss of a parliamentary majority,the collapse of two successive coalition governments,and the resignation of two Prime Ministers.
