Cross-cultural communication is a field of study investigating how people from differing cultural backgrounds communicate,in similar and different ways among themselves,and how they endeavor to communicate across cultures. Intercultural communication is a related field of study.
Acculturation is a process of social,psychological,and cultural change that stems from the balancing of two cultures while adapting to the prevailing culture of the society. Acculturation is a process in which an individual adopts,acquires and adjusts to a new cultural environment as a result of being placed into a new culture,or when another culture is brought to someone. Individuals of a differing culture try to incorporate themselves into the new more prevalent culture by participating in aspects of the more prevalent culture,such as their traditions,but still hold onto their original cultural values and traditions. The effects of acculturation can be seen at multiple levels in both the devotee of the prevailing culture and those who are assimilating into the culture.
Communication studies or communication science is an academic discipline that deals with processes of human communication and behavior,patterns of communication in interpersonal relationships,social interactions and communication in different cultures. Communication is commonly defined as giving,receiving or exchanging ideas,information,signals or messages through appropriate media,enabling individuals or groups to persuade,to seek information,to give information or to express emotions effectively. Communication studies is a social science that uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge that encompasses a range of topics,from face-to-face conversation at a level of individual agency and interaction to social and cultural communication systems at a macro level.
Everett M. "Ev" Rogers was an American communication theorist and sociologist,who originated the diffusion of innovations theory and introduced the term early adopter. He was distinguished professor emeritus in the department of communication and journalism at the University of New Mexico.
Kerry Chamberlain is a Professor of Social and Health Psychology at Massey University,New Zealand. He is a critical health psychologist who has been prominent internationally in promoting qualitative research within health psychology. His main research interests include health in everyday life and understanding of disadvantage.

Although sometimes the Indo-Kiwi definition has been expanded to people with mixed racial parentage with one Indian parent or grandparent,this can be controversial as it generally tends to remove the ethnic heritage or identity of the foreign parent or grandparent,which may be seen as insensitive to those with mixed parentage,who tend to value both their Indian and non-Indian parents and grandparents.

Health communication is the study and practice of communicating promotional health information,such as in public health campaigns,health education,and between doctor and patient. The purpose of disseminating health information is to influence personal health choices by improving health literacy. Health communication is a unique niche in healthcare that allows professionals to use communication strategies to inform and influence decisions and actions of the public to improve health.
Judee K. Burgoon is a professor of communication,family studies and human development at the University of Arizona,where she serves as director of research for the Center for the Management of Information and site director for the NSF-sponsored Center for Identification Technology Research. She is also involved with different aspects of interpersonal and nonverbal communication,deception,and new communication technologies. She is also director of human communication research for the Center for the Management of Information and site director for Center for Identification Technology Research at the university,and recently held an appointment as distinguished visiting professor with the department of communication at the University of Oklahoma,and the Center for Applied Social Research at the University of Oklahoma. Burgoon has authored or edited 13 books and monographs and has published nearly 300 articles,chapters and reviews related to nonverbal and verbal communication,deception,and computer-mediated communication. Her research has garnered over $13 million in extramural funding from the National Science Foundation,the Department of Defense,the Department of Homeland Security,the Office of the Director of National Intelligence,Counterintelligence Field Activity,and the National Institutes of Mental Health. Among the communication theories with which she is most notably linked are:interpersonal adaptation theory,expectancy violations theory,and interpersonal deception theory. A recent survey identified her as the most prolific female scholar in communication in the 20th century.

George E. Cheney is an educator,writer,speaker,facilitator,and consultant. Together with his wife and colleague,Sally Planalp,he has a primary residence in Moab,Utah. Cheney is an internationally recognized leader in the area of organizational communication and focuses his work on the improvement of organizational processes with special attention to the triple bottom line and the pursuit of socially and environmentally responsible economic development. Cheney draws from a variety of disciplines and professions in his work,including sociology,economics,political science,philosophy,marketing,management,and applied ethics.
Juan Poblete is Professor of Latin American Literature and Cultural Studies at the University of California,Santa Cruz. Poblete began his career as a UCSC Assistant Professor in 1997. He is also the provost of Kresge College at UCSC and a Governing Board Member of the Latino Literary Cultures Project/Proyecto Culturas Literarias Latinas.
Aihwa Ong is a professor of anthropology at the University of California,Berkeley,a member of the Science Council of the International Panel on Social Progress,and a former recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship for the study of sovereignty and citizenship. She is well known for her interdisciplinary approach in investigations of globalization,modernity,and citizenship from Southeast Asia and China to the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Her notions of 'flexible citizenship','graduated sovereignty,' and 'global assemblages' have widely impacted conceptions of the global in modernity across the social sciences and humanities. She is specifically interested in the connection and links between an array of social sciences such as;sociocultural anthropology,urban studies,and science and technology studies,as well as medicine and the arts.
Katharyne Mitchell is an American geographer who is currently a Distinguished Professor of Sociology and the Dean of the Social Sciences at the University of California,Santa Cruz.
Christine Vivienne Stephens is a critical health psychologist and New Zealand psychology academic. She is currently professor of psychology at Massey University based in the Palmerston North. She is one of the founding members of the International Society of Critical Health Psychology,which she has also chaired.
Jane Elizabeth Mills is an Australian-New Zealand academic and as of 2020 is the Dean and Head,La Trobe Rural Health School,Bendigo,Victoria,Australia.
