Mohd Zaidi Aziz (born 24 September 1977) is a Malaysian politician who served as Member of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Slim from August 2020 to November 2022. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. [1]

Member of the Perak State Legislative Assembly (2020–2022)

2020 Slim by-election

Following the death of former Slim MLA Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, Zaidi was nominated by BN to contest for Slim in the 2020 Slim by-election. [1] [2] He won the seat and was elected to the Perak Assembly as the Slim MLA after defeating independent candidate Amir Khusyairi Mohd Tanusi of the Homeland Fighters Party (PEJUANG) and another independent candidate Santharasekaran Subramaniam by the majority of 10,945 votes. [3]

2022 Perak state election

In the 2022 Perak state election, Mohd Zaidy was renominated by BN to defend the Slim seat. He was not reelected to the Perak Assembly as the Slim MLA for the second term after narrowly losing the seat to Muhammad Zulfadli Zainal of Perikatan Nasional (PN) by a minority of only 416 votes.

Personal life

He was educated at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), married to Juliana Sarip and has 4 children with her. [1]

A by-election was held on 4 July 2020 for the seat of Chini in the Pahang State Legislative Assembly. The seat became vacant following the death of the incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) of Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, Abu Bakar Harun on 7 May 2020 who had held the seat since 2004. A by-election was held on 29 August 2020 for the seat of Slim in the Perak State Legislative Assembly. The seat fell vacant following the sudden death of the incumbent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, Mohd. Khusairi Abdul Talib, 59, due to a heart attack on 15 July 2020. He had held the seat for four terms since 2004.

The 2022 Bugaya by-election was a by-election held on 19 November 2022 for the Sabah State Legislative Assembly seat of Bugaya. It was called following the death of the incumbent, Manis Muka Mohd Darah on 17 November 2020. Manis Muka was a 2-term state assemblywoman first elected at the 2018 Sabah state election. She was a member of the Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN).
