"Monument" is a song by the Norwegian supergroup Keiino. It was released as a digital download and for streaming on 14 January 2021 by Caroline International. [4] The song placed second in Melodi Grand Prix 2021 , the Norwegian pre-selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The song was written by Alexander Nyborg Olsson, Alexandra Rotan, Fred Buljo, Rüdiger Schramm and Tom Hugo. [5] [6]

Background

This is the second time the group are taking part in Melodi Grand Prix after winning in 2019, the group represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "Spirit in the Sky". They qualified to the final and received the highest points from the televote with a total of 291 points, although combined with their score from the jury they finished in 6th place, with 331 points. Talking about returning to compete on Melodi Grand Prix , Alexandra Rotan said, "We can’t wait to be back! We absolutely love the MGP and Eurovision world, and it feels like home. Being in KEiiNO has really been life changing for me." Talking about the song, Tom Hugo said, "We really believe 'Monument' has that little something extra that will appeal to both the public and the juries. It is time to bring the Eurovision Song Contest back to beautiful Norway, and we really hope the Norwegian people will vote us through and give us that chance." [7]

Music video

The release of the music video for "Monument" was published on Keiino's YouTube channel on 4 February 2021. It was filmed at different locations in Norway during October and November 2020 by Tobias Aasgaarden with production executed by Tom Hugo and Keiino, editing by Alex Holm and grading by Håvard Småvik. Additional video footage was taken by Natural Light Earth. Recording took place at several places in Norway: Lindesnes, Lysebotn, Haukeli, Vøringsfossen, Skåla, Slogen, Hoddevik, Vestkapp, Lofoten, Kautokeino, and Alta. [8]

Melodi Grand Prix

On 11 January 2021, it was announced that the group would participate in the Melodi Grand Prix 2021 final with the pre-qualified song. They performed the song during the first heat on 16 January 2021. The song reached the final four, and entered the gold duel at the finale on 20 February 2021, placing second in the duel to TIX.

Norway participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "A Monster Like Me" written by Kjetil Mørland. The song was performed by Mørland and Debrah Scarlett. The Norwegian broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) organised the national final Melodi Grand Prix 2015 in order to select the Norwegian entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. Eleven entries competed in a show that took place on 14 March 2015 and the winner was determined over two rounds of public televoting. The top four entries in the first round of voting advanced to the competition's second round—the Gold Final. In the second round of public televoting, "A Monster Like Me" performed by Mørland and Debrah Scarlett was selected as the winner with 88,869 votes.

Melodi Grand Prix 2018 was the 56th edition of Melodi Grand Prix, Norway's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. The competition was held on Saturday, 10 March 2018 in the Oslo Spektrum; which has hosted all the Norwegian finals since 2001. The hosts were Kåre Magnus Bergh and Silya Nymoen, who also hosted the finals in 2015 and 2016, and the former also in 2017. Ten songs participated in the final, and like 2017, the winner was chosen by the viewers together with ten international jury groups. Alexander Rybak won the competition with his self-composed song "That's How You Write a Song". Rybak also won both the Norwegian and international finals in 2009. Rybak represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Portugal in May 2018. There, the song finished as number 15 in the final.

She later joined the supergroup Keiino in 2018, and as part of the group represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "Spirit in the Sky", placing sixth. She had previously competed in Melodi Grand Prix 2018 in a duet with Stella Mwangi, placing third.

Fred-René Øvergård Buljo, better known as simply Fred Buljo, is a Norwegian Sámi rapper and joiker. Buljo is a member of the Sámi rap duo Duolva Duottar, consisting of Buljo and Ole Mahtte Gaup, established in 2007. In 2008, the group made a breakthrough when they participated in Norske Talenter and reached the final. He also is one of members of the supergroup KEiiNO, alongside Alexandra Rotan and Tom Hugo. The group was created in late 2018 in preparation for the participation in Melodi Grand Prix 2019, which they won and so were selected to represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, finishing in sixth place.

Norway originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The Norwegian broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) organised the national final Melodi Grand Prix 2020 in order to select the Norwegian entry for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The competition was won by Ulrikke with the song "Attention". However, the contest was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe.

"Fallen Angel" is a song by Norwegian singer Tix. He represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam and progressed to the grand final. The song is an English translation of the song "Ut av mørket", which he performed on the first semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix 2021, and was released on 15 January 2021. The song peaked at number 2 on the VG-lista chart. On 20 February 2021, Tix performed the song under the English title "Fallen Angel" and won the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2021. "Fallen Angel" was released the same day.

The Norwegian broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) organised the national final Melodi Grand Prix2022 in order to select the Norwegian entry for the 2022 contest. 21 entries were selected to compete in the national final, which consists of seven shows: four semi-finals, two last chance round shows and a final. Ten entries ultimately qualified to compete in the final that took place on 19 February 2022 and the winner was determined over two rounds of voting.

Subwoolfer is a British-Norwegian pop duo formed in 2021. The two members perform in black suits with white shirts with distinctive yellow stylized wolf-head masks and yellow gloves and ties and go by the pseudonyms Keith and Jim. Their identities were publicly revealed on 4 February 2023 as Ben Adams and Gaute Ormåsen, during the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2023. After winning Melodi Grand Prix 2022, they represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with their debut song "Give That Wolf a Banana". The name of the duo is a portmanteau of the words subwoofer and wolf.

Melodi Grand Prix2024 was the 62nd edition of Melodi Grand Prix (MGP), the annual Norwegian music competition that serves as the country's preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest. It was organised by Norway's public broadcaster NRK, and consisted of three semi-finals and a final, held between 13 January and 3 February 2024. The winner of the competition, Gåte with "Ulveham", represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden.
