Moreton is a village [1] in the Borough of Stafford in Staffordshire, England. It is located southeast of the town of Newport and is close to the Shropshire-Staffordshire county boundaries.

History

The village was first mentioned in the Domesday Book, its entry describes the village:

Moreton was a settlement in Domesday Book, in the hundred of Offlow and the county of Staffordshire. It had a recorded population of 3 households in 1086, putting it in the smallest 20% of settlements recorded in Domesday.

The village was part of the Hundred of Offlow in Staffordshire. [2] The village was also a chapelry and hamlet of Gnosall. [3] [4]

Amenities

The village has a few amenities including a parish church, village hall [5] and a holiday rental-let named "The Owl House". The nearest retail and educational amenities for the village are in nearby Newport and Shifnal.

Transport

The village has no bus services serving it, but to the north of the village on the main A518 road between Newport and Gnosall. Are regular bus services near "Outwoods Road" [6] and "Guild Lane". [7]

Notable residents

Folklorist Charlotte Burne (1850-1923) was born at Moreton Vicarage. [8]
