Release

On October 13, 2006, the band's upcoming album was titled Munki Brain. [3] On December 29, 2006, "Houston We Have a Problem" was posted on Asian Man Records' Myspace account; it was followed two days later by "I Think She's Starting to Like Me". [4] [5] On January 14, 2007, the album's track listing and cover artwork was posted online. [6] In January and February 2007, went on a tour of the US with support from the Heart Attacks, Teenage Rehab, the Riptides and the Mansfields. [7] On January 23, Munki Brain was made available for streaming, before being released by Asian Man Records on February 6. [8] [9] Following this, they went on an East Coast tour in April 2007, a West Coast tour with the Methadones, the Manges, and Black Tie Bombers in May and June 2007, and then a European trek with Marky Ramone in July 2007. [10] [11] [12] In May and June 2008, the band toured the US as part of the Asian Man Records Tour with various labelmates, which included an appearance at the Insubordination Fest. [13] [14] They appeared at the 2009 South by Southwest music conference. [15]

The Methadones are a Punk rock band formed in 1993 by guitarist/vocalist Dan Vapid in Chicago, Illinois. The Methadones initially lasted only a few shows before Vapid put them to the side to focus on his main band Screeching Weasel. By 1999 Dan was no longer a member of Screeching Weasel or his other band The Riverdales, and decided to restart The Methadones with B-Face of The Queers on bass, and Dan Lumley on drums. The band recorded their first album Ill at Ease in 2001. After the recording, B-Face and Lumley left the band. Schafer formed a new lineup of The Methadones with guitarist Mike Byrne, bassist Sensitive Pete, and drummer Mike Soucy.

The band and Lookout! president Larry Livermore, who served as executive producer, sought to balance the sounds of the Ramones and the Beach Boys, and enlisted the help of former Queers guitarist JJ Rassler and Cub singer Lisa Marr. The album's title track is a cover version of the Beach Boys song of the same name; it also features covers of the Hondells' "Little Sidewalk Surfer Girl" and Hawaiian punk band the Catalogs' "Another Girl". Later Days and Better Lays is a compilation album by the American punk rock band the Queers, released in March 1999 by Lookout! Records. It combines a 14-song demo tape from 1991 with some demos recorded in the lead-up to their 1996 album Don't Back Down, as well as some outtakes from that album's recording sessions. The compilation fulfilled the band's contractual obligations to Lookout!, following seven years and four studio albums on the label. They moved on to Hopeless Records, but would return to Lookout! for the Today EP (2001) and album Pleasant Screams (2002) before parting ways with the label again.

Between 1993 and 2000, a series of Ramones covers albums were released by Selfless Records, an independent record label based in Garland, Texas specializing in punk rock, on which bands influenced by seminal punk group the Ramones performed cover versions of entire Ramones albums. Under the Selfless label, Screeching Weasel, the Queers, and the Vindictives respectively covered the first three Ramones albums: Ramones (1976), Rocket to Russia (1977), and Leave Home (1977). Selfless then became Clearview Records and continued the series, with Boris the Sprinkler, the Parasites, the Mr. T Experience, the Beatnik Termites, and the McRackins respectively covering End of the Century (1980), It's Alive (1979), Road to Ruin (1978), Pleasant Dreams (1981), and Too Tough to Die (1984).
