Musadik Masood Malik is a Pakistani politician and a Senator from Punjab to the Senate of Pakistan,elected in this capacity on 02 April 2024. He previously held the position of Senator until March 12,2024. He is currently serving the second administration of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif as an in-charge of the Ministry of Energy (MoE). [1] He served as the Federal Minister of Water and Power in Khoso caretaker ministry in 2013. He also serves as Federal Minister for Water Resouorces since April 2024.
Malik graduated in Pharmacy from the University of the Punjab. He did a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science in Healthcare Administration and Policy from the University of Illinois. He also earned an MBA. Besides teaching these subjects,he has also advised governments in the oil-rich Middle Eastern countries,suh as Saudi Arabia,on matters such as economics,education and healthcare. [2]
Malik began his political career when he joined Pervez Musharraf's National Commission for Human Development (NCHD),under Nasim Ashraf. [2]
Malik was inducted into the federal cabinet of caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on 3 April 2013 [3] and was appointed as Federal Minister for Water and Power where he served until 4 June 2013. [4]
In November 2014,Malik was appointed as spokesperson for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. [2]
In August 2017,he was appointed as Special Assistant to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Media Affairs. [5]
He was nominated by Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) as its candidate in 2018 Pakistani Senate election. [6] However the Election Commission of Pakistan declared all PML-N candidates for the Senate election as independent after a ruling of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. [7]
Malik was elected to the Senate of Pakistan as an independent candidate on general seat from Punjab in Senate election. [8] [9] He was backed in the election by PML-N [10] and joined the treasury benches,led by PML-N after getting elected. [11] He took oath as Senator on 12 March 2018. [12] He was reelected as a senator representing a technocrat seat from Punjab on April 2,2024,securing 121 votes. [13]
In April 2018,he was given the status of federal minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. [14]
Muhammad Ishaq Dar,is a Pakistani politician who currently serves as Foreign Minister of Pakistan and the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan since 2024. He previously served as Finance Minister of Pakistan from 2022 to 2023,as Leader of the House for the Senate since 2022,and as Leader of the Opposition for the Senate of Pakistan from 2012 to 2013. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician and businessman who is currently serving as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan since March 2024,having previously served in the post from April 2022 to August 2023. He has also served as the president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N). Previously in his political career,he served as the chief minister of Punjab three times,making him the longest-serving chief minister of Punjab.
Khawaja Muhammad Asif is a Pakistani politician who serves as the Defence Minister of Pakistan from 19 April 2022. Previously having this post from April 2022 to August 2023 in Shehbaz Sharif's Government. Previously,he had also been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till August 2023. Previously,he was a member of the National Assembly from 1993 to 1999 and again from 2002 to 2018 and till date. In May,2019 he took the charge and became the Parliamentary Leader of PML-N in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

The triennial Senate Electionsof Pakistan were held on 3 March 2018 to replace 52 retiring senators - half of the Senate's strength - with the winning candidates serving six-year terms. Overall,Pakistan Muslim League (N) came out as the largest party,followed by the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The results of these elections were steeped in controversy due to rampant allegations of horse trading and vote-buying,which lead to the Prime Minister and opposition leader Imran Khan calling for reforms. Prior to this election,PML (N) candidates were declared as independents by the Election Commission of Pakistan owing to a Supreme Court judgment.
