MyGO!!!!! is a Japanese all-female rock band that is part of Bushiroad's media franchise BanG Dream! . Formed in 2022, the group's members portray fictional characters in the project's anime series and mobile game BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! in addition to performing their characters' respective instruments in live concerts.

Contents

The band consists of Hina Yōmiya (vocals), Rin Tateishi (rhythm guitar), Hina Aoki (lead guitar), Mika Kohinata (bass), and Coco Hayashi (drums). In the game, MyGO!!!!! is represented by five first-year high-school students from three different schools: Tomori Takamatsu (Yōmiya), Anon Chihaya (Tateishi), Rāna Kaname (Aoki), Soyo Nagasaki (Kohinata), and Taki Shīna (Hayashi).

Of the nine bands in BanG Dream!, MyGo!!!!! is one of six whose members perform their own music.

MyGO!!!!! was announced in 2022, as a start of the BanG Dream! franchise's new approach of "synchronizing" reality and the fictional universe. [1] While their characters were named, their voice actresses initially remained anonymous. To keep their identities hidden during their first shows, they played with limited stage lighting that covered their faces. [2] MyGO!!!!!'s voice actresses were officially revealed at their fourth live show on April 9, 2023. [3]

The first standalone concert for MyGO!!!!! took place on July 3, 2022 with Morfonica's drummer Mika as a supporting musician, and they opened for the "Special Live Girls Band Party!" concert in November. [4] [5] The band released their debut single "Mayoiuta" on November 9. [6]

After the release of the anime, BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! in June 2023 that centered mainly around the in-universe band's formation, their popularity exploded. When they released their first album, Meisekiha, in November, it peaked at 5th in the Oricon radio charts. [7] In September 2024, they sold out a live show at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, [8] [9] and in late December their second album, Michinoku, reached 3rd on the Oricon charts. [10]

Members

All members were revealed at the same time, during their April 2023 live show, where previously their identities were hidden and some members had yet to join the band. [3]

In-universe band

In the anime and game, MyGo!!!!! is one of two bands, the other being Ave Mujica, created following the breakup of Tomori, Soyo, and Taki's former band CRYCHIC in their third year of middle school. [20] The band name is a play on the word "迷子" (maigo), meaning "Lost Children" in Japanese, in reflection of their individual lack of direction. Five exclamation marks are suffixed to represent each band member. [21]

The band made its anime debut in the 2023 spin-off series BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! [22] [23]

Tomori Takamatsu (高松 燈, Takamatsu Tomori)

Voiced by: Hina Yōmiya

Tomori Takamatsu is the vocalist of the band. A first-year student in Haneoka Girls' High School, Tomori has long struggled with making friends due to the fact she feels she belonged to nowhere. She has an awkward personality, infamously known as "Haneoka's Weirdo Girl" for this reason, as she likes collecting all sorts of things such as band-aids, slippery things, just-the-right-size things, and even rocks and fallen leaves that she picks up from the ground. She is a member of Haneoka's astronomy club. [24]

Tomori used to sing with CRYCHIC after receiving an invitation from Sakiko Togawa during middle school. However, after only one live event, the band broke up and this event traumatized Tomori, and she constantly blames herself for the collapse of the band. [25] It isn't until Anon's arrival that she begins to open up and starts to demonstrate her vocal skills, although she remains aloof.

Anon Chihaya (千早 愛音, Chihaya Anon)

Voiced by: Rin Tateishi

Anon Chihaya is the rhythm guitarist and leader of the band. A first-year student in Haneoka Girls' High School, she was popular in her middle school and used to study in England, only to end up doing poorly and as a result returned to Japan. [26] She is a social girl, and has been able to gather respect from people around her; in spite of her popularity, Anon has struggled to make friends with them. She plays a see-through sea green ESP Ultratone.

She is the first to approach Tomori and asks her to form a band, which contributes to Tomori opening up about her past. However, she has a more difficult relationship with Taki, due to her attempt to understand Tomori, which results in tensions between the two.

Rāna Kaname (要 楽奈, Kaname Rāna)

Voiced by: Hina Aoki

Rāna Kaname is the lead guitarist of the band. A third year in Hanasakigawa Girls' Junior High School, she is a very talented guitarist who also has a very frank personality, as she always states what she likes and doesn't like. She is somewhat of a glutton and loves sweets, especially parfaits, but also dislikes hot foods as she has a sensitive tongue. Additionally, she has heterochromia, with amber and blue eyes. She plays a distressed see-through wine red ESP Potbelly.

She has a quite mysterious background, and has been referred to by Taki as a "stray cat" due to her whimsical nature, appearing at RiNG to perform open mics or to practice with the band before abruptly leaving without explanation. She only agrees to join the band due to her interest in Tomori. At the end of the television anime 'It's MyGO!!!!!', it is revealed that she is Shifune Tsuzuki's granddaughter. [27]

Soyo Nagasaki (長崎 そよ, Nagasaki Soyo)

Voiced by: Mika Kohinata

Soyo Nagasaki is the bassist of the band. A first year from Tsukinomori Girls' Academy, she is in charge of the contrabass at her school's brass band. She has a calm and caring personality, which makes her reliable for many peers in her school, thus elevating her to the status of an older sister for some. She plays a sunburst ESP GB.

Soyo is one of the three original members of CRYCHIC, together with Taki and Tomori, and she is aware about the trauma Tomori carried on after the breakup of the band. She helps Anon when Anon seeks to form a band together with Tomori, and acts as a mediator between Anon and Taki. Deep down, however, Soyo is also deeply impacted by the breakup of CRYCHIC, and can be emotional to a point she is eager to do everything to revive CRYCHIC, such as when they play a song in MyGO!!!!!'s first live gig, Harukikage, without realizing that Sakiko was there except for Soyo. It's later revealed that she adopted the surname Nagasaki from her mother, and that her original name was Soyo Ichinose (一ノ瀬 そよ, Ichinose Soyo) until an unknown circumstance culminated into the current series. [27]

Taki Shīna (椎名 立希, Shiina Taki)

Voiced by: Coco Hayashi

Taki Shiina is the drummer of the band. A first year from Hanasakigawa Girls' High School, Taki has a brash and somewhat harsh personality, resulting in her struggle to make friends. This behavior and look ultimately follows Taki at her work, which also prevents her from having good customer service. She is the youngest in a family of five sisters, and according from Soyo, one of her older sisters used to be the president of the brass band and a member of the local orchestra which frequently participated in and won competitions. [28]

Taki is one of the three original members of CRYCHIC when she was still attending Haneoka Girls' High School's middle school branch. As a result, she is deeply protective of Tomori and suspicious of Anon when she seeks to form a band with Tomori in the first place.

Musicality

MyGO!!!!!'s musical style can be described as melodic hardcore and punk rock. [29]

The band's song titles are infamously described as "hard to read," purposefully using difficult/multiple-meaning kanji in a style called Ateji. [30] The reason why difficult-to-read song titles were adopted was that when the first original song, "Meiseikoku," was being produced, the initial title proposal included hiragana, but as the band's producers wanted something a little more catchy, they had it re-proofed, and as a result, the song's title came out as something in kanji only, so after discussion within the project, the decision was made to use difficult-to-read song titles. Since then, MyGo!!!!!'s song titles have always been presented in only kanji. [31]
