Billboard Japan

Billboard Japan is a sister organization of the U.S.-based music magazine Billboard . [1] It is operated by the Japanese Osaka-based company Hanshin Contents Link (a subsidiary of Hanshin Electric Railway), holding an exclusive licence from Billboard's parent company to the Billboard brand name in Japan, [2] [3] [4] [5] and manages, among others, the website www.billboard-japan.com and several "Billboard Live"-branded music clubs located in the country. Contents

In February 2008, Hanshin Contents Link, under licence from Billboard, launched the Billboard Japan Hot 100 music chart. [7] [8] As of 2016, the list of charts compiled by Billboard Japan also includes an albums chart named Billboard Japan Hot Albums, [9] sales-only-based charts Top Singles Sales, Top Albums Sales, Top Jazz Albums Sales, and Top Classical Albums Sales, a radio-airplay chart named Radio Songs, an animation music chart named Hot Animation, and a chart for foreign songs named Hot Overseas. [10]

Since 2010, Billboard Japan holds an annual awards ceremony called the Billboard Japan Music Awards, which honors domestic and international artists who achieved the best results on Billboard Japan's music charts during the previous year.

Oricon Inc., established in 1999, is the holding company at the head of a Japanese corporate group that supplies statistics and information on music and the music industry in Japan and Western music. It started as Original Confidence Inc., which was founded by Sōkō Koike in November 1967 and became known for its music charts. Oricon Inc. was originally set up as a subsidiary of Original Confidence and took over the latter's Oricon record charts in April 2002.

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 is a record chart in Japan for songs. It has been compiled by Billboard Japan and Hanshin Contents Link since February 2008. The chart is updated every Wednesday at Billboard-japan.com (JST) and every Thursday at Billboard.com (UTC).

Superfly is a Japanese rock act that debuted on April 4, 2007. Formerly a duo, the act now consists solely of lyricist and vocalist Shiho Ochi with former guitarist Kōichi Tabo still credited as the group's composer and part-time lyricist. Superfly's first two studio albums were certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan, and their first four consecutive albums all debuted at the top of the Oricon Weekly Album Charts, a first for a female recording artist in Japan in over seven years.

"You & Me" is a song by Japanese band Superfly. It was written by Superfly's vocalist and frontwoman Shiho Ochi in response to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, and initially released to her blog on March 19, 2011, via a YouTube video. On March 25, 2011, Superfly released the song for sale to the iTunes Store, the Recochoku store, and the wamo! store, and revealed that all proceeds from sales of the song will go to the Japanese Red Cross's relief efforts. As of May 11, 2011, sales of the song allowed Superfly to raise ¥7,831,780 for the Red Cross.

<i>Soul Quest</i> 2011 studio album by Misia

Soul Quest is the tenth studio album by Japanese singer Misia. It was released on July 27, 2011, through Ariola Japan. The album yielded three official singles, the digital exclusives "Edge of This World" and "Life in Harmony", and the sole physical release "Kioku". The lead track, "This Is Me", served as promotional single for the album.

"Wired Life" is the fifth single by Japanese recording artist Meisa Kuroki. It was released on August 31, 2011, four months following the release of "One More Drama", as the second single from Kuroki's forthcoming second studio album. The Oricon Albums Chart is the Japanese music industry standard albums popularity chart issued daily, weekly, monthly and yearly by Oricon. Oricon originally published LP, CT, Cartridge and CD charts prior to the establishment of the Oricon Albums Chart on October 5, 1987. The Oricon Albums Chart's rankings are based on physical albums' sales.

The discography of Shouta Aoi consists of three studio albums, one mini-album, two compilation albums, and seventeen singles. In addition to this, Aoi has released music and drama CDs for characters he has voiced as well as contributing to anime and video game soundtracks.

Suchmos is a Japanese rock group formed in 2013. Suchmos was inspired by African-American music such as rock, jazz, and hip-hop. The band's name, Suchmos, is adapted from a jazz musician Louis Armstrong’s nickname, “Satchmo”.

Untitled is the sixteenth studio album by the Japanese idol group Arashi. The album was released on October 18, 2017 under their record label J Storm in two editions: a first press/limited edition and a regular edition. With more than 750,000 copies sold, the album was certified Triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). It was released digitally on February 7, 2020.

Yoasobi is a Japanese superduo formed in 2019 by Sony Music Entertainment Japan, composed of Vocaloid producer Ayase and singer-songwriter Ikura. Represented by the slogan "novel into music", the duo originally released songs based on selected short stories posted on Monogatary.com, a social media website for creative writing operated by the label. "Mō Sukoshi Dake" is a song by Japanese duo Yoasobi, taken from their second extended play, The Book 2 (2021). It was released on May 10, 2021, through Sony Music Entertainment Japan. Written by Ayase and based on Chiharu's short story Meguru, the song is a pop song, telling about giving the courage to take a little more at the beginning of a day. The song featured as a theme song for Fuji TV's morning news, Mezamashi TV.

It was released on December 15, 2021, through N46Div., and Sony Music Records, two years and nine months after its predecessor studio album, Ima ga Omoide ni Naru made (2019) for the tenth-anniversary celebration of the group.

<i>E-Side</i> 2021 EP by Yoasobi

E-Side is the debut English-language extended play (EP) by Japanese duo Yoasobi. It was released digitally on November 12, 2021, through Sony Music Entertainment Japan. It consists of eight tracks from the duo's songs in the English language, including their previous-release singles "Into the Night", "RGB", "Monster", and "Blue". Konnie Aoki is in charge of translating all tracks into English. Commercially, E-Side debuted at number 19 on the Oricon Combined Albums Chart and number nine on the Billboard Japan Hot Albums.

"Shukufuku", alternatively titled "The Blessing" in English, is a song by Japanese duo Yoasobi from their third extended play, The Book 3 (2023). It was released on October 1, 2022, through Sony Music Entertainment Japan, served as the opening theme of the first season of the Japanese mecha anime series Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (2022). The song was based on the anime writer Ichirō Ōkouchi's novel Yurikago no Hoshi, depicting the perspective of XVX-016 Gundam Aerial to Suletta Mercury. "Shukufuku" reached number three on the Oricon Singles Chart and Combined Singles Chart, and number two on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, and was certified platinum for both downloads and streaming by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

"Idol" is a song by Japanese duo Yoasobi from their third extended play (EP), The Book 3 (2023). It was released on April 12, 2023, through Sony Music Entertainment Japan, serving as the opening theme of the Japanese anime series Oshi no Ko. Written by Ayase and based on Aka Akasaka's short story "45510", "Idol" is a pop track with hip-hop elements, depicting the two-faced nature of a star in the Japanese idol industry, as well as perspectives on the anime's character Ai Hoshino from her fans, her B-Komachi's bandmates, and herself. Naoya Nakayama directed the accompanying animated music video for the song, which premiered on April 13 and exceeded 100 million views in a month, the fastest among Japanese acts.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tropical Night (EP)</span> 2023 single by JO1

Tropical Night is an extended play (EP) marketed as the seventh single of Japanese boy group JO1, featuring the lead track "Tiger". It also served as the second single of their third studio album, Equinox (2023). Consisting a total of six songs and two instrumental versions, the EP single was released into four editions on April 5, 2023. It features the group's frequent collaborators such as Jung Ho-hyun, 1by1, Nmore, and Poptime, and first collaboration EDM artist Asher Postman. The EP single also includes "We Good" and "Romance", theme songs of television series Our Little Love Story and Blue Birthday, starring members Syoya Kimata and Tsurubo Shion, respectively.
