Billboard Brasil is the Brazilian edition of the American magazine Billboard . The magazine provides music charts, news, photos and videos related to the music industry. Its charts include the Brasil Hot 100 and the Artistas 25, tracking the most popular songs and artists in various music genres.

Contents

First released in October 2009, Billboard Brasil was the third version affiliated with Billboard. The magazine eventually ceased publication in July 2014, focusing solely on its website until it ceased operations for undisclosed reasons in 2019. The magazine made its return in August 2023, and the first issue of the relaunch was released on 13 October 2023.

History

2009–2019: Early years and discontinuation

Billboard Brasil was first announced in August 2009. [1] It was officially launched by BPP Promoções e Publicações LTDA on 14 October 2009, with a monthly circulation of 40,000 printed copies sold at R$ 8.90. [2] [3] [4] [5] The first issue had 84 pages and featured the singer Roberto Carlos on the cover. [6] [3] Brazil was the third country to launch a print version affiliated with the American Billboard , following Russia and Turkey. [4] [3] [2] Billboard Brasil adopted the basic format of the American magazine, featuring articles about regional and international music, along with regional and international charts, including the Brasil Hot 100 Airplay. [7] These charts were compiled based on analysis reports from Crowley Broadcast Analysis, which monitored 265 radio stations across the Brazil. [6] Crowley had already provided this restricted service to record labels even before the launch of Billboard Brasil. [8] The last printed issue of the magazine was the 49th, published in July 2014. [9] The 50th issue, published in January 2015, was available only in digital format. [10] Subsequently, Billboard Brasil ceased publication and focused solely on its website. The discontinuation of its operations took place in January 2019. [11] [12]

2023–present: Relaunching of Billboard Brasil

Brazil did not have a Billboard's existing music charts after the brand's cessation in 2019 until 2022, when Billboard launched on 14 February 2022, the Hits of the World, a collection of charts around the world that ranks the top 25 songs weekly in more than 40 countries around the globe; part of this collection is the Brazil Songs chart. On 15 May 2023, it was announced that Billboard Brasil would be relaunched under the Mynd8. [15] [12] [9] The magazine returned in August 2023. [16] Its first issue of the relaunch was released on 13 October 2023. The magazine arrived with four different covers, featuring Criolo and Marcelo D2, Post Malone, Bebe Rexha, and Luísa Sonza. [17]

Mexican Latin pop group RBD has released six studio albums, six live albums, five compilation albums, 13 extended plays (EPs), 21 singles, 11 promotional singles, two box sets, and three reissues. According to Billboard, they have sold over 14.9 million albums worldwide as of October 2008, making them one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time. Luminate revealed that, in terms of pure sales, they have tallied 2 million albums in the United States. RBD made their chart debut in September 2004 with "Rebelde", which was followed by the release of their debut studio album, also titled Rebelde (2004). The record reached number one in Mexico and Spain, being later certified Diamond by the Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (AMPROFON). By the end of 2006, it had sold over 1.5 million copies according to EMI. The album also spawned the top-ten hits "Solo Quédate En Silencio" and "Sálvame", which achieved significant success in several Latin American countries. She eventually signed a record deal with Warner Music Brazil in 2013 and released her debut album, Anitta, that same year, which reached number one and was certified as a gold album in Brazil. Her debut album also produced four singles, including the commercially successful hits "Show das Poderosas" and "Zen".

"Envolver" is a song by Brazilian singer Anitta from her fifth studio album Versions of Me. It was released as the fourth single from the album through Warner Records on 11 November 2021. "Envolver" is a reggaeton song that hints to desiring a sexual relationship in a casual way, the lyrics incorporate several sexual innuendos and double entendres. A remix of the song featuring American singer Justin Quiles was released on 17 February 2022.

Brazil Songs was a record chart in Brazil, published weekly by Billboard magazine. Updated every Tuesday on Billboard's website, the chart was launched in February 2022, as part of Billboard's Hits of the World chart collection, ranking the top 25 songs weekly in more than 40 countries around the globe and is based on digital sales and online streaming. This is the first local Billboard chart in Brazil since the discontinuation of the Brasil Hot 100 Airplay after Billboard Brasil ceased its operation for an undisclosed reason in January 2019.

The Billboard Brasil Hot 100 is a record chart in Brazil for songs, published weekly by Billboard Brasil magazine. First launched in October 2009, the chart was initially published monthly and measured the airplay of songs on radio stations in Brazil across all music genres, compiled by Crowley Broadcast Analysis, and was named Brasil Hot 100 Airplay. The first number-one song on the chart was "Halo" by Beyoncé. Starting from 2014, it was published weekly. The magazine published the last issue of the Brasil Hot 100 Airplay on January 28, 2019, however, Crowley continued publishing the ranking on his own website, which began its activities in 2018. Subsequently, the magazine ceased operations for undisclosed reasons.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Multishow Brazilian Music Award for Album of the Year</span> Brazilian music industry award

The Multishow Brazilian Music Award for Album of the Year is an award given at the annual Multishow Brazilian Music Award. From 1998 to 2009, the award was named Best CD. The category was later renamed to Best Album from 2010 to 2011. In 2012, the award name changed to Best Record, and in 2020, it was altered to its current name. Marcelo D2 and Titãs are the most awarded artists, with a total of two wins. Sandy & Junior are the act with most nominations in this category, receiving a total of five nods.

Multishow Brazilian Music Award for New Artist is an award given at the Multishow Brazilian Music Award, a ceremony that was established in 1994 and originally called the TVZ Award. The award was first presented at the inaugural ceremony as National New Artist. Between the 2000 and 2004 ceremonies, it was divided into two categories: New Solo Artist and New Group.
