It was released as the album's lead single by Epic/Sony Records on September 19, 1992. It served as the opening theme to the CX music show Ureshi Tanoshi Daisuki - Friday Night Live, on which the band were regular cast members. The single's coupling song, "Taiyō ga Miteru" was used in the advertising campaign for Fujifilm's Fujicolor Super HG 400 film.

"Kimi no Uta" debuted at number 69 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart before moving up to number one the following week. It also debuted number one on the Oricon weekly chart. The song was used as the theme song for the TV Asahi television series Boku to Shippo to Kagurazaka.
Hinatazaka46 is a Japanese idol group produced by Yasushi Akimoto. The group was established as a subgroup of Keyakizaka46 named Hiragana Keyakizaka46 on 30 November 2015, and was renamed and spun off into its own group on 11 February 2019. The group's name is adopted from the alternate reading of Hyūgazaka Street in Mita, Minato-ku, Tokyo, following the custom of naming groups after sloping streets in the Sakamichi Series. The captain of the group is Kumi Sasaki, with Mikuni Takahashi as vice-captain, and its fans are referred to as Ohisama (おひさま).
