The NBTC Coaches Convention is one of the programs under the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC). In this convention, basketball coaches from collegiate and professional levels get to share their knowledge to coaches from the provinces. It used to be held at the start of a NBTC League season, but is now held during the league's national finals. It is now set to be revived in 2024.

History

In the early years of the NBTC, Eric Altamirano and Alex Compton traveled to different provinces throughout the country to conduct clinics for players and coaches. After realizing it would be better to bring the coaches to Manila, they held a three-day National Coaches' Convention in 2011 which was attended by 200 coaches and included speakers such as Tim Cone, Chot Reyes, and Ricky Dandan. The 2012 NBTC Coaches' Convention became a joint project of the NBTC and the MVP Sports Foundation (MVPSF). [2] It was held at the launch of the 2012–13 season of the NBTC League, with 280 attendees and speakers including Altamirano, Cone, Josh Reyes, Koy Banal, Bo Perasol, and Sandy Arrespacochaga. [3] Attendance to the convention is mandatory for NBTC League coaches.

The 2016 edition reached 1,000 attendees. [4] Speakers included Cone, Norman Black, Tab Baldwin, and Boris Aldeguer. Attendees continued increasing with each year. In the last conference held in 2019, over 1,500 coaches attended, including those from public schools in partnership with DepEd. [5] Speakers at that year's conference included Metta World Peace, Baldwin, and Rob Beveridge. [6] Another convention was scheduled for 2020, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Baldwin also served as a consultant of Philippine Basketball Association club team TNT Tropang Giga.

Nenad Vučinić is a Serbian-New Zealand basketball coach and former player. He once served as the interim head coach for Philippines men's national basketball team, with Chot Reyes replacing him in the following 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.

Carlos Jose "Caloy" Garcia is a Filipino professional basketball coach and former TV host. He is an assistant coach for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Frederick "Eric" Altamirano is a former Filipino basketball player and he formerly the assistant coach of the Alaska Aces. At the present, he is the commissioner of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 and PBA 3x3. He was part of the Philippine national team that played at the 1986 Asian Games. He is the former head coach of the National University Bulldogs from 2011 to 2016.

The role of active consultant, or simply consultant, in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is the highest coaching role a foreign citizen could normally get in the top-flight professional basketball league due to the head coach role being restricted to Filipino citizens. This is due to a Court of Appeals ruling secured by the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines in 2002 barring non-resident foreigners from the head coach's role in the PBA. The employment of consultants by teams of the PBA has been viewed as a "loophole" to this ruling.

Richard del Rosario is a Filipino former basketball player who is currently serving as an assistant coach for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of the PBA. He was drafted in 2nd round by Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, traded to Mobiline Phone Pals, and played also for Sta. Lucia Realtors and Alaska Aces.

He has won championships in the juniors and seniors division of the UAAP, and has played for the Philippine national team multiple times. He is listed at 6 feet 8 inches.

The Philippines men's national basketball team competed in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The tournament will be co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10, 2023. This is the Philippines third straight appearance in the FIBA Basketball World Cup since its participation in the 2014 edition hosted in Spain.

The NBTCLeague is one of the programs under the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC). It is a Philippine high school basketball tournament through which young players are developed, and coaches and players get opportunities to move up to a higher level of competition. It features the best high school teams from all over the country and since 2016, has also involved international teams.

The National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) is the official grassroots basketball program of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Inc. Its objective is to identify, prepare, and develop young players. It started out as a training program for the Philippines' national basketball teams. They then developed the NBTC League, a nationwide tournament that features the best high school teams from all over the country and since 2016, has also involved international teams. The NBTC also held a Coaches' Convention until 2019, but is now set to be revived in 2024.

Gerry Austin T. Abadiano is a Filipino college basketball player for the UP Fighting Maroons of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). He has won championships in the juniors and seniors division of the UAAP, and has played for the Philippine national under-19 team and under-17 team.
