NTA Abuja

NTA Abuja is a television station in Abuja, FCT, owned by the Nigerian Television Authority. It operates the VHF station of the same name on channel 5 and a UHF outlet (NTA Plus, channel 21).^[1]

History

With its transmitter located at Suleja, NTA Abuja conducted test transmissions on October 12, 1981 and started full-time transmissions on January 27, 1982. The role of NTA Abuja was to eventually become the station for the national capital, which was only achieved in 1987. By the early 90s, years after the relocation of the capital, there were plans to enlarge its editorial presence, especially since its size by the time the president moved in December 1991 was still minimal. For 1992, NTA Abuja intended to build a larger studio with an editing suite, cameras and other equipment. The station was already equipped with DOMSAT in order to send news items locally and later filed nationally using the system for sending the stories to Lagos and the NTA Network News. The station as of 1992 had a 10 kW transmitter and operated from 4pm to midnight.^[2]

The Aso Rock Villa is the workplace and official residence of the President of Nigeria since 1991, when Nigeria moved its capital from Lagos to Abuja. It is located at Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Asokoro District, Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. The Nigerian Television Authority or NTA is a Nigerian government-owned and partly commercial broadcast station. Originally known as Nigerian Television (NTV), it was inaugurated in 1977 with a monopoly on national television broadcasting, after a takeover of regional television stations by military governmental authorities in 1976. After a declining interest from the public in government-influenced programming, it lost its monopoly over television broadcasting in Nigeria in the 1990s.

KRCG is a television station licensed to Jefferson City, Missouri, United States, serving as the CBS affiliate for the Columbia–Jefferson City market. Owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, the station maintains studios and transmitter facilities on US 54 in the nearby town of New Bloomfield.

NTA Lagos is a Zonal Network Centre of the Nigerian Television Authority in Lagos, Nigeria's largest city. It was established in 1962 as the first station under the federal government - all other television stations in Nigeria were set up under the individual state governments. NTA Lagos is one out of two centres that have two television stations, the NTA centre in Abuja, the federal capital, is the only other centre with such a structure.

NTA Ikeja was a television station in Ikeja, Lagos State, owned by the Nigerian Television Authority. It operated on VHF channel 7 throughout its existence.

NTA2 is a television channel available in Lagos, the largest city of Nigeria. It is one of the two secondary channels owned by the Nigerian Television Authority, the only other such channel being NTA Plus in Abuja.
