Gombe State is a state in northeastern Nigeria, bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Borno and Yobe, to the south by Taraba State, to the southeast by Adamawa State, and to the west by Bauchi State. Named for the city of Gombe, the state's capital and largest city, Gombe State was formed from a part of Bauchi State on October 1, 1996. The state is among the multilingual states in Nigeria. Of the 36 states in Nigeria, Gombe is the 21st largest in area and the 32nd most populous, with an estimated population of about 3.25 million as of 2016.

Bala Mohammed's rise through the civil service ranks was rapid. Between 1995 and 2005, he rose being the Chief Supplies Officer at the federal Ministry of Solid Minerals - to assistant director at the Federal Ministry of Power and Steel – to Deputy Director/SA to Honorable Minister at the Federal Ministry of Transport – to Director of Administration at the Nigerian Railway Corporations – to Special Assistant to the Honorable Minister of Aviation – to Director of Administration and Supplies at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency. He voluntarily retired from civil service at the level of a director and joined politics.

The Bauchi Prison break was an attack on the federal prison in the Northern Nigerian city of Bauchi, in which members of Boko Haram released 721 prisoners. The attack occurred on September 7, 2010, and was carried out by approximately 50 gunmen. Of the 721 prisoners who escaped, as many as 150 were affiliated with Boko Haram. The Bauchi prison break was part of a broader escalation of Boko Haram activity, that escalation served as retaliation for the death of one of the group's primary leaders. Following this, Boko Haram has staged multiple subsequent attacks on government and religious targets in Bauchi state.

Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar is the former governor of Bauchi State, Nigeria. He is popularly known as Makama Baba and Garzali. He began his career in the Civil Service where he rose through the ranks to become the Bauchi State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. He ran for public office as Governor of Bauchi State in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, the state's opposition party. He won the election, defeating the incumbent party's candidate by over 370,000 votes. He began his tenure as the governor of Bauchi on 29 August 2016, succeeding Isa Yuguda.
The Bauchi 2019 Gubernatorial Election was held on 9 March 2019 and concluded on 25 March 2019. The incumbent governor Abubakar Muhammad has lost to the PDP Bala Muhammed in the 2019 Bauch state Governorship election. Mr Bala Mohammed, the former minister of FCT, polled a total votes of 515,113 votes to defeat the incumbent governor Abubakar Muhammad who polled 500,625 votes.
The 2015 Bauchi State gubernatorial election was the 8th gubernatorial election of Bauchi State. Held on April 11, 2015, the All Progressives Congress nominee Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar won the election, defeating Mohammed Jatau of the People's Democratic Party.
