The Nagpur metropolitan area or Greater Nagpur is a metropolitan area in Indian state of Maharashtra.

History

In 1999, a notification was sent out by the State of Maharashtra announced the Nagpur Metropolitan Area, comprising Nagpur City, Nagpur Gramin, Hingna, Parshivni, Mauda, Kamptee taluka and parts of Savner, Kalmeshwar, Umred and Kuhi talukas. The boundaries of the metro region around the municipal corporation limits of the city were described, and the Mumbai metropolitan area and Pune metro areas were declared.

Later on a notification dt. 24 December 2002, the government extended the jurisdiction of NIT [2] outside the NMC [3] limit under clause 1(2) of NIT Act-1936 as "Nagpur Metropolitan Area" [4] in connection to notification of 1999 which ranges approximately 25 to 40 km area away from NMC limit.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO) is an Indian city planning agency and richest government authority in India which is formed and controlled by the Government of Maharashtra. The Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) is an airport project for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur. It is the biggest economical development project currently underway in India in terms of investments. The project aims to exploit the central location of Nagpur and convert the present airport into a major cargo hub with integrated road and rail connectivity.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation

Nagpur Municipal Corporation is the municipal body administering Nagpur, in Maharashtra state in Central India.

The city of Nagpur is strategically located in central India. It has a vast railway network and its road network is well-maintained to avoid congestion. There are 4 modes of transportation in Nagpur. Nagpur is connected to India's four major metropolitan areas by road, rail and air. Auto rickshaws operate in most parts of the city, and are the main form of hired transport.

Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) is a local civic government body with the task of developing new areas within the city limits of Nagpur, India and maintaining existing city infrastructure. This trust works along with Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) which is an elected body of city representatives (Corporation). NIT itself is not a democratically elected civic body and has members appointed in it from various levels like Government of Maharashtra, NMC and other representatives of Nagpur. NIT thus has a small management body as compared to NMC. NIT holds the planning and development authority for Nagpur but does not receive any funds from state government. Funds needed for development work are raised by NIT through the auction of newly developed areas.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is a body of the Government of Maharashtra that is responsible for preparation of Regional Plan for MMR and the infrastructure development of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The MMRDA was set up on 26 January 1975 under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Act, 1974 Government of Maharashtra as an apex body for planning and co-ordination of development activities in the Region.

Pune Ring Road is a road planned for construction in and around the city of Pune, India. Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) claimed that the road will decrease traffic congestion and provide better access to the fastest growing areas. The road will be 128 km long and will service twenty-nine villages by connecting all highways around the city. The cost is estimated at 104.08 billion (US$1.3 billion).

Nagpur Metro Rapid transit system in Nagpur, India

Nagpur Metro is a rapid transit system for the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. It is estimated to cost 8,260 crore. In February 2014, the Government of Maharashtra gave approval for the Metro Project, while the Government of India's Ministry of Urban Development had given "In Principle" approval for the Project. On 20 August 2014, Union Cabinet gave approval for the development of project, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone on 21 August on his visit to the city. Construction on the project began on 31 May 2015, with trial run beginning on 30 September 2017.

The Greater Nashik Metro or Metro NEO is a proposed rapid transit system in the Nashik Metropolitan Region. The system is proposed to reduce traffic congestion as well as provide direct connectivity to Nashik city from its suburbs. The Greater Nashik Metro will connect suburbs of Nashik city like Deolali, Nashik Road, Upnagar, Nashik Airport, Sinnar, Igatpuri, Gangapur Road, Trimbakeshwar, Dindori, Bhagur, Niphad, Adgaon, Ghoti Budruk and Girnare.

The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) is the urban planning agency of Nagpur in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The NMRDA administers the Nagpur Metropolitan Region, spread over an area of 3,567.37 km2 (1,377.37 sq mi). It replaced the erstwhile Nagpur Improvement Trust. It was set up for the purposes of planning, co-ordination, supervising, promoting and securing the planned development of the Nagpur Metropolitan Region. It coordinates the development activities of the municipal corporations, municipalities and other local authorities.

Nagpur broad-gauge Metro is a commuter rail project planned for the city of Nagpur and extending up to adjacent areas of Wardha, Yavatmal, Narkhed, Ramtek, Bhandara, Amravati, Wadsa and Chhindwara in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, India. This project will be executed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited.

Nashik Metropolitan Region Development Authority

Nashik Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) is the Planning and Development Authority for the Nashik Metropolitan Region. It was notified in the year 2018, making an urban unit in Maharashtra. NMRDA covers, entire Talukas of Nashik, Niphad, Sinnar, Dindori, Igatpuri, and Trimbakeshwar. NMRDA has been set up as a legally empowered and a self-financing corporate body by the Urban Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra.
