Nathaniel Micah Douglas (born November 14, 2000) is an American politician and educator from Central Florida. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as a member of the Orange County Soil and Water Conservation District from 2020 to 2023. In 2024, he was the Democratic nominee for the Florida House of Representatives's 37th district.
Douglas was born and raised in Celebration, Florida, to a Jamaican-immigrant father and a French-immigrant mother, and graduated from Apopka High School. [1] [2] [3] In 2022, Douglas graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in food and resource economics. [3]
In 2020, Douglas was elected to the Orange County Soil and Water Conservation District from the 1st district at age 19. [4] [2] Due to Florida's resign-to-run laws, Douglas resigned from the soil and water conservation district in 2023. [5]
Douglas is currently a substitute teacher for the Orange County Public Schools district. [1] [6] He is associated with the Sunrise Movement. [3]
Douglas announced his candidacy for the Florida House of Representatives from the 37th district, challenging first-term incumbent Susan Plasencia who flipped the district in 2022. [7] [8] He faced no opposition in the Democratic primary and went on to face Plasencia in the general election. [5] [3] During his campaign, Douglas was endorsed by Conngressman Maxwell Frost, state senator Victor M. Torres Jr., and former state representative Carlos Guillermo Smith. [9] [10] In November 2024, David Hogg canvassed for support alongside Douglas in the district. [11] State Navigate predicted the district would vote in favor of the Democratic Party in the election. [12]
After outraising Plascensia in campaign contributions by a 2-to-1 margin, Douglas was defeated 51%–49% in the general election. [13] [14] [15] [16]
Douglas is openly gay and lives in Orlando, Florida. [1] [6] [8]
