The nominations were announced on 22 October 2020 and the awards ceremony was held on 4 December 2020. For the first time ever, all State and Territory categories (except the "All Ages Achievement" award) are public voted. [3]

High Tension is an Australian extreme metal band from Melbourne, Victoria. Formed in 2012, the band's original line-up featured Karina Utomo and Ash Pegram from Young and Restless with Matt Weston from The Nation Blue and Damian Coward from Love Like...Electrocution. Only Utomo and Weston remain from the original line-up; with the current formation of the band featuring guitarist Mike Deslandes, also of YLVA, and drummer Lauren Hammel.

Gang of Youths are an Australian alternative rock band from Sydney, now based in London, that formed in 2011. The group consists of David Le'aupepe, Max Dunn, Jung Kim, Donnie Berzestowski and Tom Hobden. Their debut studio album, The Positions (2015), received multiple ARIA Award nominations and peaked at number five on the Australian Albums Chart. It spawned certified platinum single "Magnolia", which has been described as their breakthrough hit. A.B. Original is an Australian hip hop duo made up of Indigenous Australian rappers Briggs and record producer Trials. A.B. Original stands for Always Black, Original. The National Live Music Awards (NLMAs) are a broad recognition of Australia's diverse and successful live industry, celebrating the diversity and success of the Australian live scene – recognising the best vocal talents and musicians alongside the best venues, events and festivals. The awards contain both national and state focused categories, voted on by the live industry, with select public voted categories. The national awards are revealed at a gala event, while the State and Territory awards are revealed at satellite events in their respective capital cities. They awards have been held annually since 2016.

Cash Savage and the Last Drinks is an Australian band from Melbourne, formed in 2008 by singer and guitarist Cash Savage. Currently, the lineup also includes guitarist's Joe White and Dougal Shaw, fiddlist Kat Mear, percussionist Rene Mancuso, keyboardist Roshan Khozouei and bassist Nick Finch. Jonathan Peter Zwartz is a New Zealand-born Australian jazz musician. In the 2018 ARIA Music Awards, he won the Best Jazz Album category for his third album, Animarum, released in 2018.
