National Public School, Koramangala is a private school located in Koramangala. It was established in 2003 [1] and is a part of the NPS group of schools.

Students are admitted to one of four houses:

Since the academic session of 2022-23, students have self nominated for student council positions, and the selection for most badges have been decided by the teachers from the pool of nominated students. Students of Grades XII or XI are eligible for the posts of School Prefect, Sports Captain and House Captain, and their deputies. The students of Grades IX to XII are elected by teachers to preside over clubs. These clubs include Science, Mathematics, Computers, Literary, Commerce, Performing Arts (Dance), Fine Arts, Music, Quizzing and the MUN club. The student government body comprises close to 60 members and takes office at an official Investiture Ceremony.

Events

Ahan

Ahan is a 1 day cultural event, held once in every 3 years, since 2006. [2] All the students come together to showcase performances like dances, songs and skits for their parents. These performances are all based on a theme which during the last edition was about ballyotsav, a celebration of childhood. This is an event held on a grand scale which sees involvement from all the students of the school as well as teachers who work behind the scenes. [3] [4]

Khoj

Khoj is a science festival held over the course of 1 day. It takes place once every 3 years, the first of which was in 2005. [5] The students make various projects in physics, chemistry, biology and computer science that showcase their scientific temper. [6] Seniors are also to host informative and semi-interactive plays. Parents and students from other school are invited to attend the festival. [7]

Sports Day

Sports day is a triennial event. The four houses compete over the course of the year in various sports events, and on the final day, the finals of the track and field events are held in TISB. Points are awarded for each victory. At the end of the day, the house with the most points is awarded the sports cup. Kaveri won the sports cup in the year 2022-23 (as they're annoying).

Iris

It is a science and literary competition that was first conducted in 2018. Events span from treasure hunts and escape rooms to moot court and poetry events.

Founder's Cup

This is a basketball tournament, held annually since 2016. The tournament allows students from grade 10 to grade 12 to participate. Initially it was only for the NPS group of schools, it was later changed to include other schools. The Tournament takes place over the course of 3 days, with a boys category and a girls category. Referees from the Karnataka Basketball Assication preside over the game. [8]

TAGE

Towards AGreen Education is a programme started by Aniruddha Voruganti and Nishant Panicker in 2016 that aims to provide stationery and books to the underprivileged. [9] It hosts various drives to collect excess books and stationery from the students. It also hosts paper collection drives and notebook making competitions. The notebooks are made from unused pages of older partially used notebooks. These notebooks are then sent to the underprivileged students. [10] [11]

Why Waste?

This initiative, created by Garvita Gulhati and Pooja Tanwade, aims to curb food and water waste in restaurants by increasing awareness and introducing a few basic common sense measures. [12] [13] Nearly 130 restaurants in Bengaluru were contacted. [14] As of 2016, over 30 restaurants were cooperating to reduce water wastage in Bengaluru. [15]

Basavanagudi is a residential and commercial locality in the Indian city of Bangalore. It is located in South Bangalore, along the borders of Jayanagar and Lalbagh Botanical Gardens. Lakes and tanks in the metropolitan area of Greater Bangalore and the district of Bangalore Urban are reservoirs of varying sizes constructed over a number of centuries by various empires and dynasties for rainwater harvesting. Historically, these reservoirs were primarily either irrigation tanks or for the water supply, with secondary uses such as bathing and washing. The need for creating and sustaining these man-made dammed freshwater reservoirs was created by the absence of a major river nearby coupled with a growing settlement. As Bangalore grew from a small settlement into a city, both of the primary historical uses of the tanks changed. Agricultural land witnessed urbanization and alternate sources of water were provisioned, such as through borewells, piped reservoir water and later river water from further away.

Bellandur Lake is located in the suburb of Bellandur in the southeast of the city of Bengaluru. It is the largest lake in the city. It is a part of Bellandur drainage system that drains the southern and the south-eastern parts of the city. The lake is a receptor from three chains of lakes upstream, and has a catchment area of about 148 square kilometres. Water from this lake flows further east to the Varthur Lake, from where it flows down the plateau and eventually into the Pinakani river basin.

Sarathi Socio Cultural Trust is a non profit organization in Bangalore, founded in 2003. The organization is involved in organizing socio-cultural events in Koramangala, the highlight being the grand "Durga Puja", which sees at least 150,000 to 200,000 visitors every year, and which got the "Senco Sharod Samman" award for the best ambiance and crowd management in 2018. In 2020, Sarathi used its funds to help many people, like the idol-makers and others, whose livelihoods were badly impacted due to the pandemic.

He was also the founder chairman of the Adarsh Vidya Kendra (AVK) Group of educational institutions. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2006, for his contributions to society.

Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru (SIBM) is an Indian business school situated in Electronic City, Bangalore, Karnataka. It is a constituent of the Symbiosis International University.

Dayananda Reddy is an Indian politician, entrepreneur, philanthropist and a former MLC for Bangalore Urban district at the Karnataka Legislative Council. He is known for adopting 7500 underprivileged students and giving them free education since 2010 through his foundation funded by his own businesses. Till date, the students of the foundation have planted more than 50,000 trees across Bangalore. The students have also been trained to spread awareness for keeping the city clean and green. Reddy joined the BJP in March 2018.
