Natural Black Inventions: Root Strata is an album by jazz multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk featuring performances by Kirk with accompaniment by drummer Maurice McKinley and percussionist Joseph "Habao" Texidor, and with Sonelius Smith on piano on three tracks. [2]
The album was originally released by Atlantic Records. [2] It was first released on CD in 1998, by 32 Records. [3] The AllMusic review by Scott Yanow states: "The performances are episodic and colorful with plenty of humor and adventurous moments, worthy of repeated listenings and amazement". [1] The JazzTimes wrote that Kirk "forces the listener to hear his multi-horn free associations and his serpentine asides not as charming, off-center diversions, but as pointedly structuralist works". Rahsaan Roland Kirk was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist who played tenor saxophone, flute, and many other instruments. He was renowned for his onstage vitality, during which virtuoso improvisation was accompanied by comic banter, political ranting, and the ability to play several instruments simultaneously.
Volunteered Slavery is an album by jazz multi-instrumentalist Roland Kirk featuring portions of his 1968 Newport Jazz Festival performance along with studio recordings from July 1969. Jerome Cooper was an American free jazz musician. In addition to trap drums, Cooper played balafon, chirimia and various electronic instruments, and referred to himself as a "multi-dimensional drummer," meaning that his playing involved "layers of sounds and rhythms". He was born in Chicago, Illinois and died in Brooklyn, New York. Allmusic reviewer Ron Wynn called him "A sparkling drummer and percussionist... An excellent accompanist". Another Allmusic reviewer stated that "in the truest sense this drummer is a magician, adept at transformation and the creation of sacred space".
Triple Threat is the debut album by jazz multi-instrumentalist Roland Kirk originally released on the King label in July 1957, later re-released on the Bethlehem label as Third Dimension and on the Affinity label as Early Roots. The original album received limited distribution and only became widely known after it was rereleased a few years prior to Kirk's death. It features performances by Kirk with James Madison, Carl Pruitt and Henry Duncan. The album features the first recorded examples of Kirk's trademark playing of multiple wind instruments at the same time as well as two tracks where he overdubbed manzello and tenor saxophone. Kirk would later state that the album "was about the third overdub record in black classical music".

It was originally released on the Mercury label in 1963 and features performances by Kirk with Tete Montoliu, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Don Moore and J.C. Moses and a guest appearance by Sonny Boy Williamson. The Allmusic review by Lindsay Planer and Thom Jurek states "Although somewhat ragtag in derivation, the combo quickly finds its sonic niche... providing Kirk plenty of space to improvise wildly, utilizing his clever wit and immensely expressive musicality".

The Allmusic review by Thom Jurek states "The title of this album, Left and Right, no doubt refers to the sides of Rahsaan Roland Kirk's brain, which were both heavily taxed in the composing, arranging, conducting, and playing of this recording... This is an extreme for Rahsaan — extremely brilliant and thoroughly accessible".
