Nayna Bandyopadhyay is an Indian actress and politician who is known for her work in Bengali cinema and television. [7] [8] She is the MLA of the Chowrangee Assembly constituency since 2014, as an Trinamool Congress candidate. [3] [9] She was the MLA of the Bowbazar Assembly constituency since 2001 till 2006, as a candidate from the same political party. [3]

When she was in tenth grade, she made her debut opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee in Tarun Majumdar's Pathbhola (1986). [10] [11] She subsequently appeared in Bengali films such as Surer Akashe (1988), Aamar Tumi (1989), Tufan (1989), Anurag (1990), Akanksha (1991), Pati Param Guru (1991), Shaitan (1992). She rose to wider fame and popularity for her role in Sinthir Sindur (1996), opposite Tapas Paul. [12] [4] Her political career hit the crux when she defeated Somen Mitra in the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. [13]

Acting career

Bandyopadhyay made her debut opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee in Tarun Majumdar's Pathbhola (1986) when she was in tenth grade. [14] [15] She had a starring role in the 1989 blockbuster film Tufan, directed by Biresh Chatterjee. [16] She featured in Raja Sen's Desh (2002). [17] It also features Jaya Bachchan and Sabyasachi Chakraborty.

Political career

She was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Bowbazar Assembly constituency since 2001 till 2006, as a candidate from the same political party. [18] In 2004, she was suspended as she made a comment in opposition to Mamata Banerjee. [19] She defeated her strong Congress contender Somen Mitra in the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. [20] In April 2023, Bandyopadhyay was seen sharing conversation with the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. Reportedly, she attempted to touch the feet of the CM, but the latter disapproved her in doing so. [21] The former then burst into tears. [22] [23] It was rumoured that she was denounced by the CM as the latter believed that her performance was not satisfactory. [24] Bandyopadhyay later uploaded a photo of a letter witten by the CM, on her official Facebook page. [25] [26] The letter was then made into giant hoardings.

The Pashchimbanga Bangla Akademi is the official regulatory body of the Bengali language in India. He is recognized as one of the greatest influential filmmakers of India. His few movies were restored and digitized by the National Film Archive of India, along with his Contemporaries Arabinda Mukhopadhyay, Goutam Ghose. He is Legendary filmmaker for Ganadevata in 1978, Nimantran in 1971,Palatak in 1963.

As a dancer, she is known for her stage adaptations of the various forms of Indian folk dances as well as her innovative dance forms imbued with elements from Indian classical, tribal and folk dance. She runs Natraj dance troupe. She is the founder of Debasree Roy Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works for the cause of stray animals. Roy was a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Raidighi constituency since 2011 till 2021.

Dr Ratna De Nag is an Indian politician who has been serving as Minister of State for Environment Science, Technology and Bio-Technology in the Government of West Bengal. She was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha and 16th Lok Sabha from Hooghly, which includes the Singur area. She lost the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 to Locket Chatterjee, who was elected as a BJP candidate from the Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2021 election, she was elected as the MLA of West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Pandua Vidhan Sabha Constituency.

<i>Balika Badhu</i> (1976 film) 1976 Indian film

Balika Badhu is a 1976 Hindi romantic comedy-drama film produced by Shakti Samanta and directed by Tarun Majumdar. The film is based on the Bengali novel of the same name by Bimal Kar, about a young girl who is married before she is old enough to understand what marriage is all about, against the backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle. Gradually she and her school-going husband grow as a couple and begin to love one another. The film was previously made into a Bengali film, Balika Badhu (1967), which was also directed by Majumdar.
