Neil Crompton is the British ambassador to Saudi Arabia since in February 2020. [1]
Crompton previously served in Washington DC and Tehran as well as in London as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Director for the Middle East and North Africa Directorate. He speaks Persian and Arabic. [1] [2] [3]
Crompton was educated at Durham University.
Foreign relations of Saudi Arabia refers to diplomatic and trade relations between Saudi Arabia and other countries around the world. The foreign policy of Saudi Arabia is focused on co-operation with the oil-exporting Gulf States,the unity of the Arab world,Islamic solidarity,and support for the United Nations. In practice,the main concerns in recent years have been relations with the US,the Saudi Arabian–led intervention in Yemen,the Israeli–Palestinian conflict,Iraq,the perceived threat from the Islamic Republic of Iran,and the effect of oil pricing. Saudi Arabia contributes large amounts of development aid to Muslim countries. From 1986 to 2006,the country donated £49 billion in aid.

Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is King of Saudi Arabia,reigning since 23 January 2015. Prior to his accession,he was Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia from 16 June 2012 to 23 January 2015. He is the 25th son of King Abdulaziz and the sixth of his sons who have reigned as kings.

Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud,colloquially known as MBS,is a Saudi Arabian politician who is the crown prince,deputy prime minister,and minister of defense of Saudi Arabia. He also serves as the chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs and chairman of the Council of Political and Security Affairs. He is the seventh son of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the eldest of six sons born to King Salman's third wife,Fahda bint Falah Al Hithlain. Mohammed bin Salman controls his father's government and is considered the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia. In June 2017,King Salman removed his nephew Muhammad bin Nayef from the position of crown prince and appointed Mohammed bin Salman in his place.
Saudi Arabia–Syria relations refer to diplomatic and economic relations between Saudi Arabia and Syria. Diplomatic ties between these two countries of the Middle East have long been strained by the major events in the region. Relations between Saudi Arabia and Syria deteriorated further following the Syrian Civil War and Saudi Arabia's numerous calls for Bashar Assad to be removed from power. Saudi Arabia cut off relations with Syria after they decided to close its embassy in Damascus and expel the Syrian ambassador in 2012.
On 26 March 2015,Saudi Arabia,leading a coalition of nine countries from West Asia and North Africa,launched an intervention in the Yemeni Civil War in response to calls from the president of Yemen Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi for military support after he was ousted by the Houthi movement.
The 2016 attack on the Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran was a mob action on 2 January 2016 by protesters against the execution of a prominent Saudi Arabian Shi'a cleric. Mobs stormed the embassy in Tehran and the Saudi consulate in Mashhad and ransacked them. The embassy building was set on fire with Molotov cocktails and petrol bombs. During the attacks,the police arrived and dispersed protesters from the embassy premises and extinguished the fire.
The Qatar diplomatic crisis was a diplomatic incident that began on 5 June 2017 when Saudi Arabia,the United Arab Emirates,Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic relations with Qatar and banned Qatar-registered planes and ships from utilising their airspace and sea routes,along with Saudi Arabia blocking Qatar’s only land crossing. They were later joined by Jordan and were supported by the Maldives,Mauritania,Senegal,Djibouti,the Comoros,and the Tobruk-based government in Libya.
Saudi Arabia–Qatar relations refers to the current and historical relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar. Prior to 2017,the two countries maintained cordial ties. Qatar was mainly subservient to Saudi Arabia in matters relating to foreign policy. Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's assumption of power saw Qatar reclaim its sovereignty in foreign affairs,often diverging from Saudi Arabia on many geopolitical issues. In 1996,the Qatari government launched Al Jazeera in a bid to consolidate soft power. Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah bin Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud is a Saudi Arabian diplomat and politician and a member of the House of Saud. Prince Faisal has served as the current Saudi ambassador to Germany since 27 March 2019. He has also served as foreign minister of Saudi Arabia since 23 October 2019,when he was appointed to that position by a royal decree issued by King Salman. Prince Faisal was born in Frankfurt,West Germany and spent a part of his childhood and young adulthood in that country,which is why he speaks fluent German according to German news media.
