"New York" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Ja Rule,released October 27,2004 as the second single from his sixth studio album R.U.L.E. (2004). The track,produced by Cool &Dre,features fellow New York rappers Fat Joe and Jadakiss. The song's chorus is based on Boogie Down Productions' 1990 song,"100 Guns".
The music video was directed in New York City,and features cameo appearances by many local artists. The song peaked at number 27 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart,number 14 on US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs,and number 10 on Hot Rap Songs charts respectively.

Cool &Dre produced the track for rapper Fat Joe,who initially turned it down. Jadakiss was said to be interested in the track;however,Ja Rule grabbed it almost immediately. When Irv Gotti learned of the history behind who was to have the track,he mentioned it to Ja Rule,and then they offered for both Fat Joe and Jadakiss to be featured on the track.
The song contains a sample of Nkalakatha by Mandoza. Though not credited on the songs credit the song is a slowed down Mandoza's produced by Gabbie Lerroux.
The song,or at least Ja Rule's verse,is considered a subliminal diss track aimed at rival 50 Cent and his group G-Unit. In the song Rule raps:Apprentice you're fired,you're no longer desired/So take off them silly chains,put back on your wire/I'm on fire . 50 Cent later attacked Fat Joe and Jadakiss for being a part of the song in his 2005 song "Piggy Bank".
There is a sequel to the song,"New York Is Back" on DJ Khaled's album, We the Best (2007).

Jeffrey Bruce Atkins Sr.,better known by his stage name Ja Rule,is an American rapper. Born and raised in New York City,he signed with Murder Inc Records to release his debut album Venni Vetti Vecci (1999),which spawned his first single "Holla Holla." Until 2005,Ja Rule released numerous hit songs which peaked within the top 20 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart,including his number one hit "Always on Time",his guest appearances on Jennifer Lopez's "I'm Real " and "Ain't It Funny"—both of which topped the Hot 100—as well as "Between Me and You","Mesmerize",and "Wonderful".
Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr.,professionally known as Irv Gotti,is an American DJ,music producer and record executive. He co-founded the record label Murder Inc. Records in 1998,which was an imprint of Def Jam Recordings. He received production credits for most recordings by artists of whom signed to the label—including Ja Rule,Lloyd,and Ashanti—as well as other artists such as Jennifer Lopez,DMX,Jay-Z,Kanye West,Fat Joe,and Eve,among others. Gotti is also the creator of the BET series Tales.
Jason Terrance Phillips,better known by his stage name Jadakiss,is an American rapper from Yonkers,New York. He began his career in the 1990s as one third of the rap trio The Lox alongside Styles P and Sheek Louch. The group released their debut album,Money,Power &Respect (1998) for Bad Boy Records,while its follow up,We Are the Streets (2000) was released for Ruff Ryders Entertainment,an imprint of Interscope Records. Both albums peaked within the top five of the Billboard 200 and received critical praise;their two subsequent albums,Filthy America... It's Beautiful (2013) and Living Off Xperience (2020) were released through Jay-Z's Roc Nation saw continued positive reception.
"Piggy Bank" is the fifth track from 50 Cent's second album,The Massacre. It was not released as a single,but charted at eighty-eight on the Billboard Hot 100 due to controversy over its attack on long-time rival Ja Rule,as well as Jadakiss and Fat Joe,who had worked with Ja Rule on his song "New York". The song also takes lyrical swipes at rappers Shyne,Kelis,Sheek Louch,Cassidy,Lil' Kim and Nas. He also mentions Tupac Shakur,Jay-Z,Mobb Deep and Michael Jackson in the song,but not negatively.
