Yoshihiko Noda assumed the position of President of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan after being elected to the position on 23 September 2024, beating out party founder Yukio Edano, incumbent president Kenta Izumi, and freshman lawmaker Harumi Yoshida after the expiration of Izumi's 3-year mandate. Kenta Izumi assumed the position of President of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan after being elected to the position on 30 November 2021; the election was triggered by the resignation of Yukio Edano following the party's poorer-than-expected performance during the 2021 general election. As part of his leadership, Izumi opted to revive the Next Cabinet, appointing his shadow cabinet on 13 September 2022. He later reshuffled his cabinet once on 26 January 2024.
Yoshihiko Noda is a Japanese politician. He is the current leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP), and has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2000. From 2011 to 2012, he was the Prime Minister of Japan.
Kenta Izumi is a Japanese politician who served as leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) from 2021 to 2024. He is also a member of the House of Representatives in the National Diet, currently for the Kyoto 3rd district. He was first elected in 2000 under the Democratic Party of Japan. He served as Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Cabinet Office from 2009 to 2010. After that, he served as chairman of the National Diet Measures Committee and Political Affairs Research Chairman of the Kibō no Tō, the Democratic Party for the People, and the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.
Yukio Edano is a Japanese politician who served as the leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan from its formation in 2017 until 2021.
Junya Ogawa is a Japanese politician of the Constitutional Democratic Party, and a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet. A native of Takamatsu, Kagawa and graduate of the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1994. Leaving the ministry in 2003, he ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives in the same year. Two years later, he ran again and lost for a second time. He ran for a third time in 2009 and was elected for Kagawa 1st district.
Kōichirō Genba is a Japanese politician who served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2012. He is a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet, and was a member to the Democratic Party of Japan and its successor Democratic Party until its merger in 2018. He left the party briefly before the merger, and joined the Group of Independents House of Representatives caucus of other former Democrats a few days later. A native of Tamura, Fukushima and graduate of Sophia University, he was later accepted into the prestigious Matsushita Institute of Government and Management, an institution founded by Panasonic founder Konosuke Matsushita which grooms future civic leaders of Japan. Genba was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in 1993 after serving in the assembly of Fukushima Prefecture for one term. In September 2011 he was chosen as Minister for Foreign Affairs in the cabinet of Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda.
Shoichi Kondo is a Japanese politician of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, and a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet. He is a former member of the Democratic Party (DP), the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), and New Party Sakigake. After he joined the DPJ in 1996, he was elected to the House of Representatives. He joined the Chunichi Shimbun, a major left-leaning, progressive and social-democratic general newspaper, in 1984 and left the company in 1993.
Hiroe Makiyama is a Japanese politician of the Constitutional Democratic Party and a member of the House of Councillors in the Diet representing the Kanagawa at-large district. Makiyama is part of the CDP's shadow cabinet 'Next Cabinet' as the shadow Minister of Justice.

The winner of this election, Yoshihiko Noda led the party in the 2024 Japanese general election, and will led them in the 2025 Japanese House of Councillors election.
Harumi Yoshida is a Japanese politician who currently serves as a member of the House of Representatives for Tokyo's 8th district. She defeated Nobuteru Ishihara in the 2021 Japanese general election. She stood in the 2024 CDP leadership election, where she placed fourth.
The Next Cabinet is the de facto shadow cabinet of Japan. First used in 1999, it was created by the Democratic Party of Japan while they were the country's main opposition party to the governing coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito. Next Cabinets have since been formed by presidents of the DPJ's 2016 successor and the Constitutional Democratic Party.
Takashi Takai is a Japanese politician and former bureaucrat who currently serves as a member of the House of Representatives for the Kita-Kantō PR block. He formerly served on two other occasions in the House of Representatives. He currently serves as Secretary-General of Reiwa Shinsengumi, and has twice previously been elected to the House of Representatives. Having previously been a member of the CDP, he was expelled in 2020 after having been found to have broken COVID-19 rules by visiting a sex parlor.
