Nicholas Andrew Schultz (born August 25, 1982) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played 17 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Minnesota Wild, Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Philadelphia Flyers. The Minnesota Wild drafted him in the second round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He played junior hockey for the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He represented Canada in international competition at the junior and senior level.
As a child, Schultz played minor hockey in his hometown of Strasbourg for the Maroons. [1] He was selected by the Prince Albert Raiders in the third round (43rd overall) of the 1997 Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam Draft. [2] Before joining the Raiders, Schultz played for Yorkton Mallers in the SMAAAHL. [3] [4] During his only season in the SMAAAHL, Schultz was named Rookie of the Year for the Mallers club, as well as being named the Top Defenceman and Most Valuable Player of the league's All-Star Game. Schultz made his debut for the Raiders in the 1998–99 WHL season, playing in 58 games, scoring 5 goals and adding 18 assists. [4] In his sophomore season in the WHL, he played in 72 games, scoring 11 goals and adding 33 assists. [4] After the 1999-2000 season, Schultz was named the Raiders top defenceman and most improved player. [2] The Minnesota Wild selected Schultz in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. [2] [4] Schultz served as team captain for the 2000–01 season, [2] playing 59 games, scoring 17 goals and adding 30 assists. [4]
After the Raiders 2000–01 WHL season was complete, Schultz made his professional debut with the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League, suiting up for four games, where he scored a goal and added an assist. [4] The next season, Schultz made his National Hockey League debut, after making the Wild out of training camp. [4] He made his NHL debut against the Edmonton Oilers. During his rookie season, Schultz played in 52 games, scoring 4 goals and adding 6 assists. [4] After the Wild's season was complete, Schultz joined the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League for the playoffs. On February 27, 2012, Schultz was traded to the Edmonton Oilers. [4] Schultz is currently 2nd in all-time games played for the Minnesota Wild with 743 games played.
On March 5, 2014, Schultz was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a 5th round pick. [5]
Schultz's tenure with the Blue Jackets was kept brief when on July 2, 2014, Schultz joined his fourth NHL club, signing a one-year deal as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers. [6] On February 18, 2015, the Flyers re-signed Schultz to a two-year deal worth $2.25 million annually. [7]
Schultz represented Saskatchewan at the 1999 Canada Winter Games. [2]
Schultz grew up on his family's farm in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. He has two older brothers, one of whom, Kris, played professional hockey in the CHL and UHL. One of his brothers is named Terrence and his parents' names are Robert and Carol. His cousin Jesse Schultz made his NHL debut in the 2006-07 season, playing for the Vancouver Canucks. Schultz is married to Jessica (née Dibb). They have a son (Jake Schultz aka Mr Shortstack) and two daughters. [8] They make their home in Calgary. Jessica's sister is also married to NHL player Cory Sarich, last of the Colorado Avalanche. [9] Schultz is friends with Jarret Stoll and is often present at Stoll's yearly charity golf tournament. On June 26, 2019, Schultz was hired by the Philadelphia Flyers as a player development coach. [11]

The Vancouver Giants are a major junior ice hockey team playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Inaugurated in 2001–02, the Giants have won one Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2006 and one Memorial Cup in 2007. Their home rink was the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia, an arena previously used by the National Hockey League (NHL)'s Vancouver Canucks. Effective with the 2016–17 season, the team relocated to the Langley Events Centre in the Township of Langley, a suburb of Vancouver.
Jason Matthew Smith is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman who played in over 1,000 regular season games in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1993 to 2009. Smith played for the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators, having been originally selected by New Jersey in the first round, 18th overall, at the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. Smith served as team captain of both the Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers, the former of which he led for five years and guided to the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals.
Jarret Lee Stoll is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild.
Byron Brad McCrimmon was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman and coach. He played over 1,200 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings, Hartford Whalers and Phoenix Coyotes between 1979 and 1997. He achieved his greatest success in Calgary, where he was named a second team All-Star in 1987–88, played in the 1988 NHL All-Star Game and won the Plus-Minus Award with a league leading total of +48. In 1989, he helped the Flames win their only Stanley Cup championship. His career plus-minus of +444 is the 10th highest total in NHL history, and the highest among players not inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Brian Phillip Propp is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger who played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL), from 1979 to 1994. He featured in five Stanley Cup Finals with three different NHL teams and won the 1987 Canada Cup with Team Canada.

Matthew George Greene is an American former professional ice hockey defenceman. Originally drafted in the second round, 44th overall, at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, he most notably served as an alternate captain for the Los Angeles Kings, with whom he won the Stanley Cup twice. Greene has worked in the Kings' organization as a professional scout after retiring from playing.
