Nicole C. Carroll-Lewis (born April 18, 1968, in San Francisco, California) is an American track and field athlete known for the javelin throw. She competed for USA at the 1996 Olympics [1] after qualifying on the last throw. [2] She is a two time American Champion in the event in 1996 and 1998. [3]
Carroll went to Alameda High School, [4] where she was merely a 30 ft 0 in (9.14 m) shot putter and 100 ft 0 in (30.48 m) discus thrower. She took up javelin at the College of San Mateo after encouragement from Mike Lewis, a friend of her father, a San Francisco firefighter. Lewis continued as her coach and later, her husband. She won the CCCAA Championship in 1989. She continued at Fresno State, winning the 1990 Big West Conference Championship. After college, she threw for the Olympic Club. She only finished fifth at the 1995 National Championships but her personal best of 205 ft 10 in (62.73 m) was the second best qualifying mark in the country. That mark qualified her to the 1995 World Championships. [5]
She was inducted into the inaugural class of the College of San Mateo Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011. [6]
Jacqueline Joyner-Kersee is a retired American track and field athlete who competed in both the heptathlon and long jump. She won three gold, one silver, and two bronze Olympic medals at four different Olympic Games. Joyner-Kersee was also a four-time gold medalist at the world championships. Since 1988, she has held the world record for heptathlon.
Lillian Copeland was an American track and field Olympic champion athlete, who excelled in discus, javelin throwing, and shot put, setting multiple world records. She has been called "the most successful female discus thrower in U.S. history". She also held multiple titles in shot put and javelin throwing. She won a silver medal in discus at the 1928 Summer Olympics, a gold medal in discus at the 1932 Summer Olympics, and gold medals in discus, javelin, and shot put at the 1935 Maccabiah Games in Mandatory Palestine.
Theresa Ione Sanderson is a British former javelin thrower. She appeared in every Summer Olympics from 1976 to 1996, winning the gold medal in the javelin throw at the 1984 Olympics. She was the second track and field athlete to compete at six Olympics, and the first Black British woman to win an Olympic gold medal.

Eugene G. Oberst was an American football player, track and field athlete, coach of football and basketball, and college athletics administrator. Oberst was born the youngest of eleven children. A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, he played football at the University of Notre Dame in the 1920s under coach Knute Rockne, and competed in track and field as a javelin thrower. He won the Olympic bronze medal at the 1924 Summer Games in Paris. Oberst served as the head football coach at Washington and Lee University (1929–1930), Canisius College (1931–1932), and John Carroll University (1946).
Cy C. Young Jr. was an American athlete who competed mainly in the javelin throw. He is the only American male to earn Olympic gold in the event.
