Nikhil Kumar (born 15 July 1941) is a former IPS officer-turned politician hailing from Bihar who was Governor of Nagaland from 2009 [1] to 2013 and Governor of Kerala from 2013 [2] to 2014. One of country's well known [3] IPS officers of 1963 batch from the AGMUT Cadre Kumar also served as DGP of the National Security Guards,Indo-Tibetan Border Police, [4] Railway Protection Force and Commissioner of Delhi Police. [5] He was elected member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India from 2004 to 2009,representing the Aurangabad constituency in Bihar as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He also served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology. [6]
He is a son [7] [8] of Satyendra Narayan Sinha,who was Chief Minister of Bihar,a veteran Indian National Congress leader and a seven-term Member of Parliament,also from the constituency of Aurangabad. [9]
His mother Kishori Sinha was MP for Vaishali and his wife Shyama Singh also represented Aurangabad in the Lok Sabha. [10]
His grandfather Dr. Anugrah Narayan Sinha,known as Bihar Vibhuti,was the [11] first Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister of Bihar and an eminent Gandhian;his father "Chhote Saheb" was close in his later years to Jayaprakash Narayan and was one of the most prominent leaders of the anti-Emergency movement in Bihar and also the President of the Bihar wing of the Janata Party in 1977.
His brother-in-law is ex Rajya Sabha MP N. K. Singh,Chairman of [12] 15th Finance Commission of India who has [13] been among country's prominent bureaucrats and served as India's Revenue Secretary and also Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
He was educated at St. Xavier's High School,Patna and then at Allahabad University,where he earned an M.A. in Modern History. He entered the civil service in 1963 and was an Indian Police Service officer assigned to the erstwhile Union Territory of Delhi. [14]
He held many important assignments and posts of national importance,in particular Additional Director General,Border Security Force (BSF) (1989–91;1992–94),Police Commissioner of New Delhi during 1995–97. In 1997-99 he became Special Secretary with charge of internal security at the Home Ministry. He also served as director-general of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police,and National Security Guards,a position [15] he held till his retirement in July 2001. He was then appointed Member,National Security Advisory Board,Government of India (2001–03). He was [16] awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1977 and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 1985.
He took the [17] oath of office and secrecy as the Governor of Nagaland on 15 October 2009. He [18] has been appointed a member of the Committee of Governors,constituted by the President of India to study and recommend measures [19] for enhancing productivity,profitability,sustainability and competitiveness of the agriculture sector in India with special reference to rainfed area farming. [20] He has been conferred with the prestigious Neelachakra Samman,during the [21] national cultural festival Baisakhi Utsav at Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.
The President of India,Pranab Mukherjee,appointed him as Governor of Kerala [22] on 9 March 2013. He had an [23] illustrious tenure in the state and even in a short time,he was revered as a true "People’s Governor" and left his indelible mark on the people with ease and dignity. His astonishing capability to speak extempore on important policies,in his own inimitable style and his [24] ability to communicate with the masses facilitated his deep and sympathetic involvement in all aspects of the life in the state of Kerala. He resigned as Governor on 4 March 2014 [25] to contest the Lok Sabha Elections from Aurangabad in Bihar. [26]
Ram Vilas Paswan was an Indian politician from Bihar and the Cabinet Minister of Consumer Affairs,Food and Public Distribution in the first and second Modi ministries. Paswan was also the president of the Lok Janshakti Party,nine-times Lok Sabha member and two-time Rajya Sabha MP. He started his political career as member of Samyukta Socialist Party and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969. Later,Paswan joined Lok Dal upon its formation in 1974,and became its general secretary. He opposed the emergency,and was arrested during this period. He first entered the Lok Sabha in 1977,as a Janata Party member from Hajipur constituency,and was elected again in 1980,1989,1991,1996,1998,1999,2004 and 2014.

Shri Krishna Singh (Sinha) (21 October 1887 –31 January 1961),also known as Shri Babu,was the first chief minister of the Indian state of Bihar (1946–61). Except for the period of World War II,Sinha was the chief minister of Bihar from the time of the first Congress Ministry in 1937 until his death in 1961. Along with the Desh Ratna Rajendra Prasad and Bihar Vibhuti Anugrah Narayan Sinha (A.N. Sinha),Sinha is regarded among the architects of modern Bihar. He also led the Dalit entry into the Baidyanath Dham temple (Vaidyanath Temple,Deoghar). He was the first chief minister in the country to abolish the zamindari system. He underwent terms of imprisonment for a total of about eight years in British India. Sinha's mass meetings brought many people to hear him. He was known as Bihar Kesari for his "lionlike roars" in public speaking. His close friend and Gandhian Bihar Vibhuti A.N. Sinha in his essay Mere Shri Babu wrote that,"Since 1921,the History of Bihar has been the history of the life of Shri Babu". The 'Bihar Kesari' never visited his constituency to ask for votes as he believed that his work will speak for him.
Satyendra Narayan Sinha was an Indian politician and statesman,participant in the Indian independence movement,a leading light of Jaya Prakash Narayan's ‘complete revolution’movement during the Emergency and a former Chief Minister of Bihar. Affectionately called Chhote Saheb,he was also a seven-time Member of Parliament from the Aurangabad constituency,a three-term Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly,and a Member of the Bihar Legislative Council once. Regarded to be one of India's most influential regional people of the time,his reputation was synonymous with being a strict disciplinarian and tough taskmaster.
Anugrah Narayan Sinha,known as Bihar Vibhuti,was an Indian nationalist statesman,participant in Champaran Satyagraha,Gandhian &one of the architects of modern Bihar,who was the first Deputy Chief Minister and the Finance Minister of the Indian state of Bihar (1946–1957). He was also a Member of the Constituent Assembly of India,which was elected to write the Constitution of India and served in its first Parliament as an independent nation. He also held a range of portfolios including Labour,Local Self Government,Public Works,Supply &Price Control,Health and Agriculture. A.N. Sinha,affectionately called Anugrah Babu,was a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom movement and worked with Bihar Kesari Sri Krishna Sinha to lead the Gandhian movement in Bihar. One of the leading nationalists in the Indian independence movement from Bihar after Dr Rajendra Prasad,he was elected as the Congress Party deputy leader in the state assembly to assume office as the first Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister of independent Bihar,and re-elected when the Congress Party won Bihar's first general election with a massive mandate in 1952.
St. Xavier's High School,Patna,is a private Catholic primary and secondary school,located in the neighborhood of Gandhi Maidan in Patna,Bihar,India. Established in 1940,it is the oldest Jesuit school in the city of Patna and in the state of Bihar,established by missionaries from the American Chicago Province of the Society of Jesus. Founded in 1940,it is named after St. Francis Xavier,a Spanish Jesuit saint of the 16th century,who travelled to India. The independent,non-diocesan school is operated by the Patna Province of the Society of Jesus and located in the heart of the city of Patna.

Sushil Kumar Singh is an Indian politician and former Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha from Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar. He has been elected as a Member of Parliament in the 12th Lok Sabha and the 15th Lok Sabha. He is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party,which is ruling party in the Indian Parliament. He was a member of the Standing committee on Coal and Steel,Committee on Public Undertakings and Committee on Petitions. and Consultative Committee of Ministry of Road,Transport and Highways in the 17th Lok Sabha. He joined Bhartiya Janata Party on 7 March 2014 in presence of Rajnath Singh. Earlier he was associated with Janata Dal (United),the ruling party in the state of Bihar.
Shyama Singh was an Indian politician and a former Member of Parliament from the Aurangabad (Bihar) and was married to the former Governor of Nagaland and Kerala,Nikhil Kumar,who was also elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from the same constituency in Bihar. She joined Congress at the initiative of Rajiv Gandhi,the late Prime Minister of India,whom she met at a social event in Delhi.As a parliamentarian,her crowning achievement was reviving the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project which her father-in-law and veteran Bihar leader Late Satyendra Narayan Singh had conceived in 1989 as the then Chief Minister of Bihar.Shyama Singh was also the vice president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee.
Litterateur and parliamentarian Shankar Dayal Singh was twice elected to the Parliament of India. He was one of the youngest members of the Fifth Lok Sabha,in which he represented the Chatra parliamentary constituency in Bihar. Contesting his maiden Lok Sabha election in 1971,he defeated Smt. Vijaya Raje,the wife of Sri Kamakhya Narayan Singh,Raja of Ramgarh. He was again elected to the upper house,the Rajya Sabha,in 1990 from Bihar.
Sachchidananda Sinha was an Indian lawyer,parliamentarian,and journalist. He was the first President of the Indian Constitutional Assembly which drafted the Constitution of India.

An erstwhile member of Janata Dal (United);he won the 2015 Legislative Assembly election to the Tekari constituency by defeating Anil Kumar of Hindustani Awam Morcha,a political party led by former Bihar Chief Minister,Jitan Ram Manjhi. He defeated Anil Kumar by a huge margin of votes. While Abhay secured 86,975 votes,Anil managed to get 55,162 votes only. In 2024 Indian general election,he won the Aurangabad,Bihar Lok Sabha constituency by defeating BJP's four term member of parliament,Sushil Kumar Singh. He contested on the symbol of Rashtriya Janata Dal in this election.
