Nine Digital Pty Ltd (formerly Mi9) is an Australian digital media company and subsidiary of Nine Entertainment Co.

History

Ninemsn was originally formed in 1997 as a joint venture between Microsoft and PBL. The ninemsn website operated as the main website for the Nine Network and MSN in Australia.

The Ninemsn company was renamed Mi9 in 2013, and in October 2013, Microsoft sold its 50% stake in the company to Nine Entertainment. [1] Mi9 was subsequently renamed Nine Digital.

Services

9Honey

Women's network 9Honey was launched as a fashion site in April 2015. [2] Nine subsequently brought together several online brands under the a single women’s network called 9Honey in 2016. This change saw the fashion and beauty website rebranded as 9Style. [3]

9Now

Catch-up service 9Now was launched in 2016, replacing previous catch-up service 9Jumpin.

9Saver

9Saver is a joint-venture with RevTech Media and an online money-saving site.

Future Women

Future Women is a brand aimed at professional women through events and workshops, an on-platform community and journalism. [4]

Nine.com.au

Formerly a joint venture with Microsoft, website Ninemsn was renamed nine.com.au in 2016.

Pedestrian Group

Pedestrian.TV is a youth digital news and entertainment website based in Australia. It is part of the larger Pedestrian Group, which itself is wholly owned by Nine Entertainment. Pedestrian Group also includes gaming website Kotaku Australia, [5] business news site Business Insider Australia, [6] technology site Gizmodo Australia [7] and Lifehacker Australia. [8]

Stan

Stan is a subscription streaming service established in 2015.

CarAdvice

CarAdvice is Australia’s largest independent automotive content publisher. Its sister publication is BoatAdvice. In 2020, Nine announced plans to phase out the CarAdvice brand in 2021 in order to focus on its Drive brand. [9]

Find a Babysitter

Find a Babysitter is Australia's largest online babysitter website started by Delia Timms and Jeff Bonnes in 2005. The couple divested from the company after five years. The website subsequently came under the control of Nine Entertainment. [10] Nine sold the website back to Timms and Bonnes in 2021. [11] [12]

RSVP

RSVP is an online dating service purchased by John Fairfax Media in 2005. [13] It merged with Oasis Active in 2014, [14] whose co-founders David Heysen and Daniel Haigh were subsequently brought on to manage the combined entity. Nine sold RSVP to Heysen and Haigh in 2021. [15]

Nine.com.au is an Australian news and current events website, owned by ASX-listed company, Nine Entertainment Co. It was originally established as a 50:50 joint venture between Microsoft and PBL Media in 1997 as "Ninemsn." Microsoft sold its stake in the venture to Nine Entertainment in 2013 and the company was rebranded as Nine Digital in 2016. The website was rebranded to its current name Nine.com.au on 28 June 2016.

Lifehacker is a weblog about life hacks and software that launched on January 31, 2005. The site was originally launched by Gawker Media and is currently owned by G/O Media. The blog posts cover a wide range of topics including: Microsoft Windows, Mac, Linux programs, iOS and Android, as well as general life tips and tricks. The website is known for its fast-paced release schedule from its inception, with content being published every half hour all day long. The Lifehacker motto is "Tips, tricks, and downloads for getting things done."

The Xbox 360 is a home video game console developed by Microsoft. As the successor to the original Xbox, it is the second console in the Xbox series. It competed with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. It was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with detailed launch and game information announced later that month at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Nine Entertainment Co. Holdings Limited is an Australian publicly-listed media company with holdings in radio and television broadcasting, newspaper publications and digital media. The entity is largely a successor to the former Publishing and Broadcasting Limited (PBL), which was established by the Packer family.

Gizmodo is a design, technology, science and science fiction website. It was originally launched as part of the Gawker Media network run by Nick Denton, and runs on the Kinja platform. Gizmodo also includes the subsite io9, which focuses on science fiction and futurism. Gizmodo is now part of G/O Media, owned by private equity firm Great Hill Partners.

The company was founded by John Fairfax as John Fairfax and Sons, who purchased The Sydney Morning Herald in 1841. The Fairfax family retained control of the business until late in the 20th century.

Xbox Video gaming brand created and owned by Microsoft

Xbox is a video gaming brand created and owned by Microsoft. The brand consists of five video game consoles, as well as applications (games), streaming services, an online service by the name of Xbox network, and the development arm by the name of Xbox Game Studios. The brand was first introduced in the United States in November 2001, with the launch of the original Xbox console.

Stan is an Australian over-the-top streaming service. It was launched on 26 January 2015. Stan originally was founded as StreamCo Media, a joint venture between Nine Entertainment Co. and Fairfax Media. In August 2014, each company invested A$50 million in StreamCo. StreamCo was renamed Stan Entertainment in December 2014, prior to the January 2015 launch of the streaming service. Nine Entertainment would ultimately acquire Fairfax Media in 2018, making Stan a wholly owned subsidiary of Nine Digital.

Presto (company)

Presto was an Australian media streaming company which offered subscriptions to unlimited viewing of selected films, and from 2015, TV series. The service, initially owned wholly by Foxtel, launched on 13 March 2014 featuring films exclusively.

9Now

9Now is a video on demand, catch-up TV service run by the Nine Network in Australia. The service launched on 27 January 2016, replacing Nine's previous service 9Jumpin. 9Now offers online live streaming of Channel 9, 9Gem, 9Go!, 9Life and 9Rush, as well as live news via 9news.com.au.

Fusion Media Group

The Fusion Media Group is a division of Univision Communications. The company was launched in April 2016 after Univision bought out Disney's stake in Fusion through the Fusion Media Network joint venture between Univision & Disney-ABC. While Univision is focused on serving Hispanic America in Spanish, FMG is the company's multi-platform, English language division targeting young adults.

Gizmodo Media Group was an online media company and blog network formerly operated by Univision Communications in its Fusion Media Group division. The company was created from assets acquired from Gawker Media during its bankruptcy in 2016. In April 2019, Gizmodo and The Onion were sold to private equity firm Great Hill Partners, which combined them into a new company named G/O Media.

G/O Media Inc. is an American media holding company that runs Gizmodo, Kotaku, Jalopnik, Deadspin, Lifehacker, Jezebel, The Root, The A.V. Club, The Takeout, The Onion, and The Inventory. G/O was formed in April 2019 when Great Hill Partners, a private equity firm, purchased the websites from Univision for $20.6 million. Prior to the sale, the former Gawker Media properties had operated as Gizmodo Media Group after being acquired by Univision following the conclusion of the Bollea v. Gawker lawsuit and subsequent bankruptcy in 2016. Former Forbes executive Jim Spanfeller became the CEO of G/O Media.

Pedestrian.TV is a youth digital news and entertainment website based in Australia.
