No Place For Us is the debut EP by ambient techno act The Sight Below, released on August 26, 2008 by Ghostly International. It is available as a free, promotional download on the label's website.^[1] The EP was recorded live in Seattle, Washington during the winter of 2007–2008. It is equally influenced by shoegaze and ambient techno.

An extended play record, often referred to as an EP, is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single, but is usually unqualified as an album or LP. Contemporary EPs generally contain a minimum of three tracks and maximum of six tracks, and are considered "less expensive and time-consuming" for an artist to produce than an album. An EP originally referred to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play (SP) and LP, but it is now applied to mid-length CDs and downloads as well.

Ambient techno is a 1990s offshoot of techno and ambient house that united the atmospheric textures of ambient music with the melodic and rhythmic elements of techno and electro. It was pioneered by electronic artists such as B12, Aphex Twin, the Black Dog, Higher Intelligence Agency, and Biosphere.

The Sight Below is an American ambient techno/shoegaze act from Seattle, Washington. Its main member is the American post-minimalist composer Rafael Anton Irisarri.

The Disintegration Loops is a series of four albums by American avant-garde composer William Basinski released in 2002 and 2003. The music was recorded from a series of ambient music fragments played in tape loops that gradually deteriorated each time they passed the tape head. The completion of the recording coincided with the 9/11 attacks, which Basinski witnessed from a rooftop in Brooklyn while playing the project to friends; the accompanying artwork features Basinski's footage of the New York City skyline in the aftermath of the World Trade Center's collapse.

Biosphere is the main recording name of Geir Jenssen, a Norwegian musician who has released a catalogue of electronic music. He is well known for his works on ambient house and arctic themed pieces, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from science fiction and nature sources. His 1997 album Substrata was voted by the users of the Hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album. He has also composed several film scores.

The clamshell is opened up to use the computer. Laptops are folded shut for transportation, and thus are suitable for mobile use. Its name comes from lap, as it was deemed to be placed on a person's lap when being used. Although originally there was a distinction between laptops and notebooks, as of 2014, there is often no longer any difference. Laptops are commonly used in a variety of settings, such as at work, in education, for playing games, Internet surfing, for personal multimedia, and general home computer use.

Lusine is the stage name of Jeff McIlwain, an ambient/IDM musician. A native Texan, McIlwain now resides in Seattle. In 1998, he attended California Institute of the Arts to study 20th century electronic music and sound design for music and film. Soon after, he met Shad Scott and put out a self-titled release with Isophlux.

Simon Scott is an English musician, best known as the drummer in Slowdive and formerly of Lowgold. He also fronted Inner Sleeve/Televise, and has released ambient music as a solo artist.
