The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR) provides prison services for the state of North Dakota. The Division of Field Services supervises parolees through 14 field offices. [1] DOCR also has a Division of Juvenile Services providing supervision and case management of delinquent youth of the state. [2] The agency has its headquarters in Bismarck. [3]

The Division of Juvenile Services (DJS) provides juvenile correctional services. The agency operates the North Dakota Youth Correctional Center and maintains eight regional community offices. [5] The North Dakota Youth Correctional Center is partially in Mandan and partially in unincorporated Morton County. [6] [7] [8]

Brown Cottage - Brown Cottage is a 16-bed structure housing female juveniles for Detention, Assessment and Treatment.
Hickory Cottage - Hickory Cottage is a 35-bed structure housing male treatment status juveniles. A Mental Health Specialist, a Nurse Practitioner, a dentist office, nurse's offices and a medical examination room is located on the lower level of Hickory Cottage. An Intensive Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program is also located on the lower level of this cottage.
Pine Cottage - Pine Cottage is a 25-bed structure housing male juveniles. Cottage staff provide a variety of programs including Assessment, Detention, Time Out, and Special Management. Additionally, this cottage houses high risk or high maintenance male juveniles. It also serves as the intake cottage for all new male admissions. [9]
Since the establishment of the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, two officers have died in the line of duty. [10]
In 2015, several North Dakota legislators, judges and prison officials flew to Norway and visited Halden Prison. Halden is often called the "most humane prison in the world" and was visited to see how to reform North Dakota state prisons to lower recidivism rates and decrease the number of fights in their prisons. North Dakota's DOC has since established softball fields and encouraged vocational training for prisoners at North Dakota State Penitentiary. Solitary confinement has been reduced to only be a few days at a time rather than a maximum time in solitary of a year [11]
Mandan is a city on the eastern border of Morton County and the eighth-most populous city in North Dakota. Founded in 1879 on the west side of the upper Missouri River, it was designated in 1881 as the county seat of Morton County. The population was 24,206 at the 2020 census. Across the Missouri River from Bismarck, Mandan is a core city of the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The Oregon Department of Corrections is the agency of the U.S. state of Oregon charged with managing a system of 12 state prisons since its creation by the state legislature in 1987. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is the state corrections agency for the U.S. state of Nebraska. NDCS currently has 9 institutions confining over 5,000 inmates. All male inmates coming into the system enter through the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center where they are evaluated and assigned to other facilities. All female inmates are housed at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women. The agency's headquarters is in Building #1 in the Lincoln Regional Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections (PADOC) is the Pennsylvania state agency that is responsible for the confinement, care and rehabilitation of approximately 37,000 inmates at state correctional facilities funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The agency has its headquarters in Hampden Township, Cumberland County in Greater Harrisburg, near Mechanicsburg. In October 2017, Gov. Tom Wolf signed a "memorandum of understanding" that allows the PADOC and the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole to share like resources and eliminate duplicative efforts. All parole supervision now falls under the jurisdiction of the PADOC; while parole release decisions remain under the jurisdiction of the PA Board of Probation and Parole. The two agencies remain separate. With the passage of the 2021-2022 Pennsylvania budget, this merger became official and permanent.
Lowell Correctional Institution is a women's prison in unincorporated Marion County, Florida, north of Ocala, in the unincorporated area of Lowell. A part of the Florida Department of Corrections, it serves as the primary prison for women in the state. Almost 3,000 women are incarcerated in the complex, which includes the Lowell Annex. As of 2015 2,696 women are in the main Lowell CI, making it the largest prison for women in the United States; its prison population became larger than that of the Central California Women's Facility that year.
