The South Sydney Rabbitohs are a professional Australian rugby league team based in Redfern, a suburb of inner-southern Sydney, New South Wales. They participate in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership and are one of nine existing teams from the state capital. They are often called Souths and The Bunnies.

In season 2007/08 there were 14 different sides representing the black and gold, eight of these men's and six women's. Founded in 1878, Manly was a foundation club in the Sydney grade competition. Manly are relatively successful, having won the Club Championship 5 times since the year 2000. The current head coach is Tim Cruickshank and the first-grade captain Jay Lenton. Manly play their home games at Manly Oval. The club has produced a number of international cricketers, more recently Stephen O'Keefe, Stuart Clark and Michael Bevan, and all-time great Keith Miller. Michael John Cox is a former Australian cricketer who played several matches for Western Australia during the mid-1980s. Born in Newcastle, Cox grew up in New South Wales, where he attended Maitland Boys High School and captained the school's cricket team. Having played for local teams in Maitland and Newcastle, he was selected for several regional representative sides before moving to Sydney where he played with Gordon in the Sydney grade cricket competition. Although Cox played several times at colts level, he was never selected for the New South Wales state team and eventually moved to Western Australia to further his opportunities. His only matches at state level came during the 1985–86 and 1986–87 seasons, when Western Australia's usual wicket-keeper, Tim Zoehrer, was unavailable due to national selection. Cox achieved moderate success in both Sheffield Shield and McDonald's Cup matches, but was dropped when after Zoehrer's return.

They are also known as the Panthers, like the local rugby league team, and play in the Sydney Grade Cricket competition. Penrith are currently under the guidance of John Benaud as their coach. England coach, Trevor Bayliss, played his Sydney Grade Cricket career at Penrith. Penrith won the 2008/09 club championship and have won 3 first grade titles, including in 2018/19. Patrick Cummins also plays for Penrith, being the first test player from Penrith for some decades.
