Ambassador Nusura TIPERU is a Ugandan diplomat,politician with vast experience as a National and East African legislator. She served as Uganda's first National Female Youth Member of Parliament following the promulgation of the 1995 Constitution.

From 2001 to 2006, she was elected to represented the women of Yumbe in the Parliament of Uganda and was instrumental in the process towards the pacification of Northern Uganda. She is an advocate of peace.

From June 2007 to June 2017, Ambassador Tiperu served two consecutive terms as one of the nine members representing Uganda in the 2nd and 3rd East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in Arusha, Tanzania; the headquarters of this assembly.

She was nominated to represent the Government of the Republic of Uganda as one of the council members of the Islamic University in Uganda. A university affiliated to the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) based in Uganda.

Tiperu was appointed as Uganda's Ambassador to Türkiye in December 2021. [1]

Background and education

She was born in Yumbe District, West Nile sub-region, in Northern Uganda on 21 October 1974. Nusura Tiperu attended Mukono Town Academy in Mukono District for her A-Level studies, from 1992 until 1993. She then entered Makerere University, Uganda's oldest university, where she studied Social Sciences from 1994 until 1997. She graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. [2]

Career

From 1996 until 2001, she served as the Female Youth Member of Parliament, representing all young women in Uganda. She was then elected to serve as the Woman Member of Parliament, representing Yumbe District in Parliament from 2001 until 2006. From 2007 until 2012, she served in the East African Legislative Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania, representing the Republic of Uganda. In June 2012, she was re-elected to serve in the same capacity for another five-year term. [3]

Other responsibilities

Nusura Tiperu Omar is a historical member of the Central Executive Committee of the National Resistance Movement, the ruling political party in Uganda since 1986. [4] . She is also the Chairperson of the International Muslim Women’s Union. She is a mother of three; two girls and one boy. [3] She is fluent in the following languages: English, Swahili, Alur, Aringa and Luganda. From 2012 until 2015, she served as member of the EALA Commission. The Commission "manages the affairs of the Assembly, organizes the business and program of the House, and nominates members of other committees". [5]

These colleges include College of Natural Sciences (CONAS), College of Health Sciences (CHS), College of Engineering Art & Design (CEDAT), College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (CAES), College Of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), College of Humanities & Social Sciences (CHUSS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS), College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources & Bio-security (COVAB), College of Education and External Studies (CEES) and Makerere University Business School (MUBS). In addition, Makerere has onother campus in Eastern Uganda Jinja City.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) is a sub-organ of the larger East African Community, being the legislative arm of the Community. Members are sworn into five-year terms.

Janat Balunzi Mukwaya is a politician and former Major in the military of Uganda. Currently she is a Senior Presidential Advisor Before that, she previously served as the Minister for General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister from 16 February 2009 until 27 May 2011. the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Affairs from 6 June 2016 until December 2019. Minister of Trade and Industry from June 2006 until February 2009. In May 2011, she temporarily retired from politics and was replaced in the cabinet by Kiddu Makubuya. She also served as the elected member of Parliament for Mukono South Constituency in Mukono District, from 2006 until her retirement in 2011.

Margaret Nantongo Zziwa is a Ugandan politician and legislator. She served as the Speaker of the 3rd East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in Arusha, Tanzania. She was elected to serve in that capacity in June 2012. She was impeached and voted out of office on 17 December 2014, on the basis of misconduct and abuse of office, but was later awarded compensation for illegal removal.

Sarah Ndoboli Kataike is a Ugandan politician. She is the current State Minister for Luweero Triangle, in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position on 25 July 2013. Prior to that, from 15 August 2012 until 25 July 2013, she served as the State Minister of Health for General Duties. She replaced Richard Nduhura, who was appointed Uganda's Ambassador to the United Nations. She is also the elected Member of Parliament for Budaka District Women's Constituency on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party ticket.

Fred Mukasa Mbidde is a Ugandan lawyer, human-rights activist, mass communication specialist, motivational speaker and politician. He is an elected member of the 3rd East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), representing the Republic of Uganda. He has been in this office since June 2012. He serves on three EALA committees: the Committee on Communication, Trade and Investments; the Committee on Legal, Rules and Privileges; and the Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution. He is the chairperson of the Committee on Communication, Trade and Investments.

Oliver Wonekha is a Ugandan politician and diplomat, who serves as Uganda's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, since 2022. She previously served as the country's Ambassador to the United States of America, from 2013, until 2017 and thereafter as Uganda's High Commissioner to the Republic Of Rwanda between 2017 and 2022.

Daniel Fred Kidega is a Ugandan politician and former Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, in office from December 2014 until June 2017. Leontine Nzeyimana is a Burundian politician who has served as Minister of East African Community Affairs, in the Office of the President of Burundi, effective 8 May 2012. From July 2014 until August 2014, she temporarily served as Head of the African Union Mission to Somalia.

Zaitun Driwaru, is a Ugandan school teacher and politician. She served as the District Woman Representative for Yumbe District, in the 10th Ugandan Parliament (2016–2021).

Fatuma Ndangiza is a women's rights advocate, policy expert, and politician. As of January 2024, she is serving her second term as a Rwandan member of the East African Legislative Assembly. Born and raised in a refugee camp in Uganda, she returned to Rwanda during the civil war. Initially she settled in Byumba and led the SOS Ramira initiative to assist women and children in acquiring basic supplies and treatment to meet their needs. When the Rwandan Patriotic Front took control of Kigali, she moved to the capital and began working in the Ministry for Women and Family Promotion to provide support and relief to survivors and victims of the Rwandan genocide. She helped to create the National Women's Council and its regional and local frameworks to empower women to help them achieve political and economic parity through legal change and advocacy. She worked with the women's ministry until 2002.

Mo-Mamo Karerwa is a Burundian educator, school administrator, and politician. Trained as a teacher, when ethnic violence broke out in 1993, she founded the Magarama II Peace Primary School. The curricula of the school, which taught students from the age two through sixth grade, followed the government mandated courses for half of the day and taught conflict resolution and how to live in peace for the remainder of the school day. She developed a curriculum which taught children's rights and examined Burundian history and culture as a path to a peaceful future. The curriculum was adopted by sixteen schools in the Gitega Province and she was appointed as the primary school teacher representative to the Provincial Education Council in 2003.

Josephine Lemoyan is a Tanzanian sociologist, social services analyst, and politician. She is a member of the Maasai people. After completing degrees in social sciences at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and the University of Hull, in England, she specialised in WASH systems from the early 1990s. Working with governments and NGOs, she advised on wastewater treatment facilities and water and soil conservation. In 2017, she was elected as one of the Tanzanian Members of Parliament for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). She served on the EALA's Commission, which oversees the body's administrative functions and served on the committee to evaluate projects and facilities that support the East African Community's common market and custom's union integration. As a member of the Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution, she worked on legislation to integrate regional laws on livestock movement, trade, and to protect the ecosystems and safe and secure movement of people and goods on Lakes Tanganyika and Victoria.

Oda Gasinzigwa is a Rwandan civil servant and politician. Born in Tanzania as a refugee, she was educated at the Institute of Development Management in Mzumbe and then worked for eight years at the National Bank of Commerce in Dar es Salaam. When the Rwandan genocide ended in 1994, she moved to Kigali and worked with various ministries to improve women's economic and leadership.

Susan Nakawuki Nsambu is a Ugandan lawyer, politician and legislator who served in the eighth Parliament of Uganda as the Woman representative for Busiiro County East in Wakiso District. She was a member of the third and forth East African Legislative Assemblies.
