Ocean Grove are an Australian nu metal band formed in 2010. The band consists of vocalist Dale Tanner, drummer/producer Sam Bassal and bassist/vocalist Twiggy Hunter. Studio-only member Running Touch also provides synthesizers and additional production.
As of 2022, the band has released three studio albums; The Rhapsody Tapes (2017), Flip Phone Fantasy (2020), and Up in the Air Forever (2022); along with two EP's; Outsider (2013) and Black Label (2015)
Ocean Grove were formed in 2010 in Melbourne, originally as a post-hardcore band by Luke Holmes (lead vocals), Dale Tanner (vocals/bass), Running Touch, Jimmy Hall (guitar) and Matias Morales (drums). This line-up released a demo in 2010, followed by their debut extended play, Outsider in 2013, before Morales departed the band later that year and was replaced by Sam Bassal. A single was released in late 2013 called "The Dead Years". In 2014, Running Touch stopped touring with the band to focus on his solo project, while remaining as a studio member and Matt Henley was brought in as their new live guitarist. On 12 June 2015, the band released their second extended play, Black Label , which peaked at No. 50 on the ARIA Albums Chart. [1] It was followed by the Black Label Tour around Australia in July 2015 with support from Devastator and Void of Vision. [2] The band was a supporting act, alongside Like Moths to Flames, Buried in Verona and August Burns Red for Northlane's headlining Australian tour in November 2015. [3] In 2016, Ocean Grove supported both In Hearts Wake and Northlane on their "Equinox" dual-headlining tour.
On 27 April 2016, the band had signed with UNFD and released a new single, "Lights on Kind of Lover". [4] The EP Black Label was released the United States and Europe under the revised title, Black Label (Sublime Vol.), with "Lights on Kind of Lover" included. [5]
On 1 December 2016, Ocean Grove released a new single, "These Boys Light Fires". [6] On 21 December they released another single, "Intimate Alien", along with its music video and announced that they would release their debut album, The Rhapsody Tapes , on 3 February 2017. [7] Upon its release The Rhapsody Tapes reached No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart in its first week, [1] [8] [9] and was selected as a "Feature Album" by Australian radio station, Triple J. [10]
On 24 May 2017, Ocean Grove announced their national headlining tour, which spanned from 4 to 12 August with support from Justice for the Damned, Broken, and the Beverly Chills. [11] The band then went on to support Northlane on their Mesmer World Tour across Europe and the United Kingdom, alongside Erra and Invent Animate, from 23 November to 16 December 2017. This was followed up directly by their first appearance in the USA, supporting August Burns Red on their 38-date 'The Phantom Anthem Tour', alongside Born of Osiris and Erra in January and February 2018.
Ocean Grove were one of the bands that performed at the first ever Download Festival Australia at Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse on 24 March 2018, [12] as well as playing shows that same week in Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide supporting Limp Bizkit and Of Mice & Men. [13]
On 2 May 2018, Ocean Grove signed a worldwide publishing deal with BMG. [14] In an interview with Depth magazine, Dale Tanner revealed that the band was working on material for a new album, [15] then stating in a separate interview with Spotlight Report that a new single would come out later in the year with a new album possibly coming out in 2019. [16]
On 14 December 2018, Ocean Grove released a new single "Glass Gloss", and announced that vocalist Luke Holmes and guitarist Jimmy Hall would be leaving the band and will be performing with the band for the last time at the Unify Gathering on 11 January 2019, with the band continuing on as a four-piece. [17]
On 3 February 2019, the band released a teaser for their new member in the style of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater character selection menu. [18] On 4 February 2019, they premiered a new single, 'Ask for the Anthem' and announced the addition of Twiggy Hunter to the lineup as bassist and backing vocalist, with Dale Tanner moving to full-time frontman. [19] On 1 October 2021, the band announced the departure of live guitarist Matt Henley. [20]
In January 2022, the group announced their third studio album, Up in the Air Forever will be released on 22 April 2022. The album is billed as a "10-track, genre-bending epic musical journey" and was proceeded by the singles "Cali Sun", "Silver Lining" and "Sex Dope Gold". [21]
Ocean Grove's musical style is generally considered as nu metal, [22] [23] grunge, [22] [23] [24] nu metalcore [24] and hardcore punk. [23] [24] The band themselves often describe their sound as "Odd World Music". [23] [25]

The Butterfly Effect are an Australian rock band from Brisbane formed in 1999. The band released a self-titled debut EP in 2001, and then three full-length albums afterwards; Begins Here in 2003, Imago in 2006, and Final Conversation of Kings in 2008. During this time, the band consisted of Clint Boge on lead vocals, Kurt Goedhart on guitar, Glenn Esmond on bass, and Ben Hall on drums. After struggling for years to work on a fourth studio album, Boge left the band in 2012 due to personal and creative differences. The remaining members recruited Brisbane-based singer Paul Galagher for a final single and tour before announcing their breakup in 2016. In July 2017, the band announced their reunion as well as a headlining tour scheduled to take place in March 2018. In 2022, the band released their fourth studio album, IV.

Hands Like Houses are an Australian rock band from Canberra. Formed in 2008, the group is currently signed to Hopeless Records and UNFD. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015 the group won the Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album category for their album Node. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2017, the band won again with Mesmer. The band won the Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album category for the third time at the ARIA Music Awards of 2019 for their 2019 album Alien.
In Hearts Wake are an Australian metalcore band from Byron Bay, formed in 2006. The band comprises vocalist Jake Taylor, guitarists Eaven Dall and Ben Nairne, bassist Kyle Erich, and drummer Conor Ward. They have released five studio albums: Divination, Earthwalker, Skydancer, Ark and Kaliyuga, which was released on 7 August 2020. The band's lyrical themes include environmentalism, environmental justice, global warming, conservation, and other social issues.
The Rhapsody Tapes is the debut studio album by Australian nu metal band Ocean Grove. it was released on 3 February 2017 through UNFD Records. Their first single "These Boys Light Fires" was released on 1 December 2016. followed by another single "Intimate Alien" which was released on 21 December 2016 along with the music video for the single and the pre-order for the album. The album reached #5 on the ARIA Albums Chart in its first week of release, and was selected as a "Feature Album" by Australian radio station Triple J almost two weeks ahead of the album's release.
Mesmer is the fourth studio album by Australian heavy metal band Northlane. It was released on 24 March 2017 through UNFD, with no announcement prior to the release. It was produced by David Bendeth and recorded at The Barber Shop Studio in Hopatcong. It follows the group's slight departure from their metalcore roots and towards a more alternative and experimental sound, as established on their previous release, Node. It peaked at No. 3 on the ARIA Albums Chart. It is the last Northlane album to feature their founding bassist Alex Milovic as a member of the band.

Void of Vision have released three studio albums: Children of Chrome (2016), Hyperdaze (2019) and Chronicles (2023).
The Brave are an Australian metalcore band from Brisbane, formed in 2013. The band consists of guitarists Kurt Thomson and Denham Lee, drummer Brent Thomson, bassist Daniel Neucom, and vocalist Nathan Toussaint. They have released two studio albums: Epoch (2016), and Aura (2019).
Alien is the fifth studio album by Australian heavy metal band Northlane. It was released on 2 August 2019 through UNFD. It was self-produced by the band themselves and recorded at Chris Blancato's Studio in Sydney, although Marcus Bridge's vocals were recorded at Electric Sun Studios in Arndell Park. The album's second single, "Bloodline", shows the group's continuity of slight departure from their metalcore roots and towards a more alternative and experimental sound, as established on their previous releases, Node and Mesmer. It also marks the group's first shift into different genres, as they blended into the album elements of nu metal, industrial metal and EDM. This is the last album to feature their founding bassist Alex Milovic, who only appeared on the track "Vultures".
Matthew Victor Kopp, who performs as Running Touch, is an Australian singer, songwriter and record producer. In addition to his eponymous solo project, he was the founding guitarist of Australian nu metal band Ocean Grove in 2010, and since 2014 he is a studio-only member. He appears on both their albums, The Rhapsody Tapes and Flip Phone Fantasy. He also contributed written material for Adult Art Club.
Analog Future is the first live album by Australian heavy metal band Northlane. It was released on 16 March 2018 through UNFD. It was recorded between August–December 2017, during their Mesmer World Tour.
Hyperdaze is the second studio album by Australian metalcore band Void of Vision. It was released on 13 September 2019 by UNFD. It was produced by Northlane guitarist Jon Deiley and Lance Prenc, and recorded at Prenc's home studio and Pony Music Rehearsal Studios in Hallam.
Slowly Slowly are an Australian pop punk and indie rock band from Melbourne, Victoria. The band consists of Ben Stewart, Patrick Murphy (drums), Albert Doan (guitar), and Alex Quayle. They released their debut album Chamomile in 2016.
Flip Phone Fantasy is the second studio album by Australian nu metal band Ocean Grove. it was released on 13 March 2020 through UNFD Records. Their first single "Ask for the Anthem" was released on 6 February 2019. The second single "JUNKIE$" was released on 28 October 2019. The third single "Sunny" was released on 12 December 2019, while the music video for the single was released on 20 January 2020. The fourth single "NEO" was released on 11 February 2020. The fifth single "Thousand Golden People" was released on 27 February 2020 along with the announcement of the album's release date. It is the first album to not feature Luke Holmes on vocals and Jimmy Hall on guitar, and the first album to feature Twiggy Hunter on bass and vocals with Dale Tanner switching to lead vocals; this can be heard on the album in a shift away from their previous hardcore punk influenced releases, as Flip Phone Fantasy takes more influence from rap metal and alternative rock, featuring far less screaming than their previous work.
Thornhill are an Australian heavy metal band from Melbourne, formed in 2015. The band currently consists of vocalist Jacob Charlton, guitarist Ethan McCann, drummer Ben Maida, and bass guitarist Nick Sjogren. Thornhill have released two studio albums: The Dark Pool (2019) and Heroine (2022), and two EPs: 13 (2016) and Butterfly (2018).
