The Somali Armed Forces are the military forces of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Headed by the president as commander-in-chief,they are constitutionally mandated to ensure the nation's sovereignty,independence and territorial integrity.
Brigadier general or brigade general is a military rank used in many countries. The rank is usually above a colonel,and below a major general or divisional general. When appointed to a field command,a brigadier general is typically in command of a brigade consisting of around 4,000 troops.

In the 1980s,he joined the Somali National Movement. Before being appointed as the chief of staff,he was head of Mercy Corps in Somaliland.
General Nuh Ismail Tani is the chief of staff of the Somaliland Armed Forces.
The Danab Brigade,also known as the Somali Danab,is an elite special operations force in the Somali National Army that is made up of members from multiple clans throughout Somalia. The force specializes in special operations and raiding which have been successful on recapturing territory previously held by the Al-Qaeda affiliate group,Al-Shabaab.
The Chief of Defence Force is the professional head of the Somali Armed Forces. He is responsible for the administration and the operational control of all branches of the Somali military and thus is the direct superior to both the Chief of the Navy and the Chief of the Air Force. The post has however only been held by Army officers and the term limit is 2 years. Typically the rank held by the Chiefs is brigadier general,though some,notable Dahir Adan Elmi were granted the rank of major general.
The Somaliland National Army,is the land force and largest branch of the Somaliland Armed Forces is based in the Somaliland capital of Hargeisa. The Somaliland National Army is composed entirely of professionals and volunteers due to the army not being mandatory of conscription. Some Somaliland battalions operate near the Puntland border due to a border dispute.
Abdi Hassan Mohamed "Hijaar" is a Somali police chief and former Army officer. His last position held was Police Commissioner of the Somali Police Force.
General Salah Yaqub is a Somali military general. He is the incumbent the Deputy Commander of the 27th Division of Somali Armed Forces
The Chief of the General Staff is the head of the General Staff and the highest ranking officer of the Somaliland Armed Forces. He is appointed by the President of Somaliland,who holds the position of Commander-in-Chief and the head of the Somaliland Armed Forces. The current Chief of the General Staff is Major general Nuh Ismail Tani.
Major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin Addow,is a Somali military general and former Chief of Defence Force Somali Armed Forces.
Hassan Ali Abokor was first chief of staff of the Somaliland Armed Forces. As of 2024,he is the only national military commander who is not Habr Awal branch.
