Ohio's 22nd senatorial district has historically been based in north central Ohio. It now consists of the counties of Medina, Ashland, Richland, and a portion of Holmes County. It encompasses Ohio House districts 2, 69 and 70. It has a Cook PVI of R+6. Its Ohio Senator is Republican Mark Romanchuk.

Capri Silvestri Cafaro is a former Democratic member of the Ohio Senate, representing the 32nd District from 2007 to 2016. From the Mahoning Valley, Cafaro served three terms as an Ohio State Senator (2007-2016), including a stint as Minority Leader from 2009 to 2012. Her district included all of Trumbull County, Ashtabula County and portions of Geauga County.

It encompasses Ohio House districts 22, 67 and 68. It has a Cook PVI of R+6. The district was represented by the Senate President from 2005 to 2010 with Senator Bill Harris. Its current Ohio Senator is Republican Andrew Brenner. He resides in Powell, a city located in Delaware County.
Ohio's 27th senatorial district has historically been based in metro Akron. It now consists of Wayne County, as well as, portions of both Summit and Stark counties. It encompasses Ohio House districts 1, 37, and 38. It has a Cook PVI of R+4. The district was represented by the Senate President from 1978 to 1979 with Senator Oliver Ocasek. Its Ohio Senator is Republican Kristina Roegner. She resides in Hudson located in Summit County.
Ohio's 32nd senatorial district has historically been based in the Mahoning Valley. Currently it consists of the counties of Ashtabula and Trumbull as well as portions of Geauga county. It encompasses Ohio House districts 63, 64 and 99. It has a Cook PVI of D+12. Its current Ohio Senator is Republican Sandra O'Brien.
A special election for Ohio's 12th congressional district was held August 7, 2018, following the resignation of Republican U.S. Representative Pat Tiberi. The Republican Party nominated State Senator Troy Balderson for the seat while the Democratic Party nominated Franklin County Recorder Danny O'Connor. Balderson led O'Connor in preliminary results; however, the race was not officially called on election night. Counting of outstanding ballots began on August 18 and was completed on August 24. The outstanding ballots did not change the margin enough to trigger an automatic recount, so Balderson was declared the winner on August 24.
The 2022 Ohio gubernatorial election will take place on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor of Ohio. Incumbent Republican governor Mike DeWine is eligible to run for re-election to a second term in office.

On March 10, 2021, Marcia Fudge resigned her seat in the United States House of Representatives after being confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Biden administration. Governor Mike DeWine set the primary date for August 3, concurrent with the special election in Ohio's 15th congressional district. The general election will be on November 2.
