Olajumoke Akinjide (born 4 August 1959) is a Nigerian politician from Oyo State, Nigeria. She was the Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) [1] appointed by the former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan in July, 2011 to serve in the Cabinet of Nigeria. [2]

Early life and family

Olajumoke Akinjide, also known as Jumoke Akinjide, was born on 4 August 1959 in Ibadan, Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo state into the family of late Legal Luminary, Pa Osuolale Abimbola Richard Akinjide, SAN. [3] [4]

Politics

Between May 2001 and September 2003 she served as the Special Assistant to the President on FCT matters [5] [6] and later as Special Assistant to the President on G77 matters and Nigerians in Diaspora (NIDO) under the then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

She is also a grassroots politician and was a candidate for the senate seat, Oyo Central Senatorial District on the PDP [7] [8] platform in 2011, the same year she was appointed minister. [9] [10]

Education

Akinjide attended Maryhill Convent School, Idi-Ape, Iwo Road, Agodi, Ibadan, from 1963 to 1968, where she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate and proceeded to St Louis Grammar School, Ibadan 1969 to 1974 where she got her West African School Certificate (WASSCE). [11]

Akinjide holds an LLB (Hons) from King's College London, and Masters Degree in Law (LLM) from Harvard Law School in the United States. [12]

She has a First Class Honours in the English Solicitors Final Examinations.

Akinjide has dual qualifications as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and as a Solicitor of England and Wales. [13]

Adetunji Idowu Ishola Olurin mni was a Nigerian general who served as the military Governor of Oyo State from 1985 to 1988 and Field Commander of ECOMOG Peacekeeping Force in Liberia from 1992 to 1993 during the First Liberian Civil War. Olurin retired from service in 1993, and was a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was administrator of Ekiti State from 19 October 2006 until 27 April 2007.

Abdulkareem Adisa was a Nigerian major general who was military governor of Oyo State during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. He was convicted for involvement in an attempted coup against military head of state General Sani Abacha in 1997, and was on death row when Abacha died in June 1998. He was subsequently pardoned.

David Medayese Jemibewon is a retired Nigerian Army major general who served as military governor of the now defunct Western State during the military regime of General Murtala Muhammed, governor of Oyo State after it had been created from part of the old Western State during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo, and later as Minister of Police Affairs in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo after the return to democracy. He was a contender for the Kogi West Senatorial District in Kogi State.

Iyom Josephine Anenih is a Nigerian politician who was appointed Minister of Women Affairs on 6 April 2010, when Acting President Goodluck Jonathan announced his new cabinet.

Jubril Martins-Kuye was a Nigerian politician. After studying in Nigeria and the United States he qualified as an accountant before entering politics. Martins-Kuye was originally a member of the Social Democratic Party and served as a senator. He joined the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) towards the end of the Sani Abacha regime. After unsuccessfully standing as the People's Democratic Party candidate for governor of Ogun State in 1999 he was appointed minister of state for finance by President Olusegun Obasanjo, a position he held until 2003. In 2010 he became minister of commerce and industry in the cabinet of Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, holding office until 2011.

Chief Sunday Afolabi was a Nigerian politician who served in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo as Minister of Internal Affairs from 1999 to 2003. The 2023 Oyo State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Oyo State, concurrent with elections to the Oyo State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Seyi Makinde was re-elected, winning by a % margin of victory over first runner-up and APC nominee—Senator Teslim Folarin.
