The Xbox Series X version of Operation: Tango received generally favorable reviews according to review aggregator Metacritic. [4] Jerome Joffard of Jeuxvideo.com generally praised Operation: Tango for its unique and innovative gameplay, particularly the asymmetric cooperative experience where players assume the roles of Agent and Hacker. However, he criticized the game's repetitiveness and unclear objectives in later missions, which he felt could frustrate players. [6] In their review of Operation: Tango, Zheng Yi of Geek Culture praised the futuristic world, comparing it with the cyberpunk aesthetic of Keiichi Matsuda's Hyper-Reality and the distinctive style of Robert Valley. [2] Thomas Heath of TheGamer applauded the game for its engaging gameplay and globe-trotting setting, which he believes make it a thrilling co-op experience. He does however note that the game's relatively short length might leave some players wanting more. [8]
Operation: Tango has won a number of awards since its release, including "Best Game Design Award Winner" at the Tokyo Game Show 2021 Sense of Wonder Night, [9] "Best Multiplayer Game Winner" at the Gamescom 2021 Indie Arena Booth, [10] and "Grand Winner PC Game - Multiplayer Game" at the NYX Game Awards 2021. A multiplayer video game is a video game in which more than one person can play in the same game environment at the same time, either locally on the same computing system, on different computing systems via a local area network, or via a wide area network, most commonly the Internet. Multiplayer games usually require players to share a single game system or use networking technology to play together over a greater distance; players may compete against one or more human contestants, work cooperatively with a human partner to achieve a common goal, or supervise other players' activity. Due to multiplayer games allowing players to interact with other individuals, they provide an element of social communication absent from single-player games.
A cooperative video game, often abbreviated as co-op, is a video game that allows players to work together as teammates, usually against one or more non-player character opponents (PvE). Co-op games can be played locally using one or multiple input controllers or over a network via local area networks, wide area networks, or the Internet.
Cooperative board games are board games in which players work together to achieve a common goal rather than competing against each other. Either the players win the game by reaching a predetermined objective, or all players lose the game, often by not reaching the objective before a certain event ends the game.
