P. T. Kunju Muhammed is a director and producer in Malayalam film industry. Magrib was his first film venture. [1] He received a number of awards for his movies at the state level.

Personal life

He is a native of Pancharamukku near Chavakkad in Thrissur district, Kerala. [2] He is married and they have two children. Kunju Muhammed was elected twice to the Kerala legislative assembly as a left independent candidate in 1994 and 1996. [3] He graduated in mathematics from St. Thomas College, Thrissur. [4]

Film career

His debut film was Magrib (1993). Later he directed Garshom (1998), [1] Paradeshi (2007) [5] and Veeraputhran (2011). These films got critical acclaim and received number of awards. Kunhimohammed’s entry to film was as a producer and an actor. He was involved in the production of Aswathamavu, Swaroopam, Purushartham all directed by K. R. Mohanan. He acted in the movie Uppu (Salt) which was directed by Pavithran.

Kunhimohammed is one among the founder directors of the Malayalam Channel Kairali TV. [6] Currently, he is presenting a popular program in Kairali TV the so-called ‘Pravasalokam’, a program for finding missing Kerala expatriates in different parts of the world.

Venu, was an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter, and lyricist with over 20 films to his name.His directorial venture Udhyogastha in 1967 was the first-ever multi-star cast film of the south India. His work in Malayalam cinema was significant and most influential, covering all themes and genres over a career spanning more than 40 years. His most recognized film C.I.D. Nazir, in 1971, revolutionized movie-making in the investigative genre in Malayalam cinema. Following this film's commercial and critical success, he came up with two more in the series - Taxi Car in 1972 and Prethangalude Thazhvara in 1973, as the first investigative sequels in Malayalam cinema. His last film, Parinamam released in 2003, won an honour for the Malayalam cinema on the global stage by winning the Best Screenplay Award at the Ashdod International Film Festival in Israel. <i>Garshom</i> 1999 Indian film

Garshom is a 1999 Indian Malayalam film, directed by P. T. Kunju Muhammed. The film stars Murali, Urvashi, Madhu and Siddique in the lead roles. The film has musical score by Ramesh Narayan. It was the debut film of noted lyricist Rafeeq Ahammed. It won the John Abraham Award for Best Malayalam Film in 1998.
