Paperplane Pursuit is a Malaysian pop band based in Kuala Lumpur. [1] The band currently consists of John O (lead vocalist), Dru Yap (drummer), Isaac Ravi (guitarist) and The Chief (bassist). Past members include Irwan Haadi, Wern-Jhien and Hiang Liang. The group released their self-made debut album Malaysia 2.0 in 2011, and follow-up album Higher in 2014. Paperplane Pursuit's sound is upbeat, pop music for mainstream radio. [2] [3]

The band has independently and wholly created and produced their own music, accompanying music videos as well as their own studio spearheaded by lead vocalist John O. [4]

Since their debut, the band has enjoyed success on mainstream Malaysian radio stations Hitz Fm, Fly Fm, Mix Fm, Red Fm and several other stations. The singles released from their album Higher including "What If", "Beat of Your Love", "Feel Good" and their latest single "Who's Gonna Stop Me?" have all peaked at number one on the Hitz Fm's Met 10 based on popular vote by their fans, Paperazzi, as they have been affectionately named by the band. Their single, "Feel Good", reach the Billboard charts in the United States. [6]

History

2009–2010

The band formed in 2009 from Silent Scream. [7] Paperplane Pursuit and first gained recognition in 2010 with their single 'Goodbye', released off their debut EP, Malaysia 2.0. The track enjoyed chart success in Malaysia and the accompanying music video made waves on MTV Asia, airing daily at the end of 2010. [8]

2011–2013

In support of Malaysia 2.0, Paperplane Pursuit spent 2011 and 2012 performing live, and making radio and TV appearances. [9]

In November 2012, they released 'Everybody Wants Somebody', the first single off their second EP, ‘Higher’. [10] The single gained regular airplay on local radio stations. The band followed up in February 2013 with the release of their next single 'Higher (Ah Song)', [11] which continued to receive attention on Malaysian radio. In September 2013, the band released their third single,'What If'. [12]

In November 2013 Paperplane Pursuit was invited to perform 'What If' for The SHOUT! Awards 2013. [13]

2014

The band’s breakthrough single ‘Beat Of Your Love’, [14] featuring fellow Malaysian artist Darren Ashley, [15] was released in January 2014. The single, "Feel Good", [16] was first released in Malaysia in July 2014 and continued to be played daily on Malaysian radio well into February 2015, making the band one of the most played acts on Malaysian radio. [17] The band headlined the H-artistry event in Malaysia. [18] Paperplane Pursuit was a featured artist for the Amplified : Music Made of More series by Guinness which also included international artists such as Howie Day and MAGIC!. [19] Paperplane Pursuit was also presented with 5th annual August Man Malaysia Men of The Year Awards 2014 for their music. [20]

2015

The band is currently working on a full-length album, which will be released in early 2016. The album’s first single, titled ‘Who’s Gonna Stop Me?!’, is to be released in Malaysia in August 2016. The music video features Malaysian artistic gymnast and gold medalist Farah Ann Binti Abdul Hadi and was released worldwide on YouTube in September. [21] [22]

Paperplane Pursuit supported 5 Seconds of Summer at the KL Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur on 2 March 2016 during the Sounds Live Feels Live World Tour.

Astro Radio owns and manages 10 private radio stations which are transmitted through the FM radio spectrum. As of November 2021, Astro Radio still remains as the number one and largest radio network company in Malaysia with 77.7% of Peninsular Malaysians and 15.6 million listeners tuning in to its stations weekly, together with its Media Prima counterpart, Media Prima Audio, according to the GfK Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) Wave 1 in October 2021. Era being at top of the list with the most audience reach estimated at 6,000,000 listeners, followed by Sinar and Gegar.

Hitz is a Malaysian national radio station managed by Astro Radio, a subsidiary of Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad. The radio station name was changed from Hitz.FM to Hitz FM in 2014. The radio has regional stations in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. In 2015, as according to Nielsen RAM Survey Wave #1, Hitz FM maintained its position as Malaysia's leading English-language station with over 1.2 million listeners. Hitz FM has a weekly audience of more than 2.2M listeners on radio. It targets listeners between the age of 10 to 29, according to Astro Radio. The radio station's slogan is "Malaysia's #1 Hit Music Station."

Hiresh Haridas, better known by his stage name Reshmonu, is a singer-songwriter from Malaysia who does mostly English songs. He is known for songs such as "Walk Away", "Cintaku Pergi", "Hey Waley" and "Superfine". He is of Malayali descent. In July 2015, he rebranded himself as just Resh, claiming that "Reshmonu" was a part of his "coming-of-age" process.

Bunkface is a Malaysian rock band formed in 2006. Priyadashini Loganathan, known professionally as Dasha Logan, is a Malaysian singer-songwriter. She began her professional singing career at age 17 in her home town of Penang, Malaysia. She is primarily a jazz and soul singer, best known for her song "Cleverly" which reached the number 1 spot on the UK Soul Chart in December 2014. Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me is the soundtrack to the 2014 American documentary film of the same name based on the life of country music singer Glen Campbell. An extended play consisted of five songs was released by Big Machine Records was released on October 17, 2014, in anticipation of the film's theatrical release, and was followed by a full soundtrack featuring 10 songs, which also includes tracks from the extended play, released on October 31.
