Papuwa (stylized as PAPUWA) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Ami Shibata and adapted into a 26-episode anime television series. The series follows Kotaro who is stranded on an uncharted island inhabited by strange talking animals and has no memory of his past. Papuwa is the sequel to Shibata's 1991 series Nangoku Shōnen Papuwa-kun (南国少年パプワくん,lit. Southern Boy Papuwa),serialized in Enix's manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Gangan from 1991 to 1995. That series was adapted into a 42-episode anime television series which aired on TV Asahi from October 1992 to June 1995.
Once,on an unknown southern island,a battle was waged over two mysterious stones,one red and one blue. The blue stone controls desire,and its power created the blue clan. And the red clan that inherited the power of the red stone was filled with the light of hope. Finally,the battle came to an end,and the young one who possessed the power of the blue stone fell into a deep sleep. The one with the power of the red stone flew off far across the sky. Desire and hope... until the day these two powers meet each other again...
The Ganma Army is run by the Ganma family,who possess the power of the stone of desire. This power come in the form of what is called secret stone eyes (hisekigan,秘石眼). The army itself works as a group of mercenaries,originally ruthless and seemingly taking control of the world,but since Shintaro's takeover the group now fights for "justice" (basically only assassinating people they believe are bad).

A namamono (ナマモノ) is a strange talking animal-type creature that lives on Papuwa Island. There are countless namamonos that appear throughout the series.
Nangoku Shōnen Papuwa-kun was adapted into a 42-episode anime television series in 1992. Produced by Nippon Animation under the direction of Jun Takagi,the series began its broadcast run on TV Asahi from 10 October 1992 to 2 October 1993. Three pieces of theme music were used for the opening and closing of each episode. The opening theme is "Npapa Love Song" (んばば・ラブソング) performed by Tome. The closing themes are "Shikasutto Nonsense" (しかすっとナンセンス) performed by Daiji Man Brothers Band for the first 24 episodes and "Kibun wa Papuwa Hare" (気分はパプワ晴れ) performed by Kouji Tsuno and Pythagoras for the remaining episodes.
The second manga series was also adapted into an anime television series by Nippon Animation. Directed by Kenichi Nishida,the second series began its broadcast run on TV Tokyo from 30 September 2003 to 30 March 2004. Two pieces of theme music are used,one opening and one closing. The opening theme is "Tabibito" (旅人) performed by Loosely,and the closing them is "Yurari Yurari (ゆらりゆらり) performed by Masashi Iino (いいのまさし,Iino Masashi).
Two video games entitled Nankoku Shōnen Papuwa-kun (南国少年パプワくん) were released on March 25,1994 by Enix for the Nintendo's Game Boy and Super Famicom.
Mitsuo Yamaguchi,better known by his stage name Kappei Yamaguchi,is a Japanese actor,voice actor,and rakugoka affiliated with Gokūand 21st Century Fox. After making his voice acting debut in 1989 as the male version of Ranma Saotome in Ranma ½,Yamaguchi went on to other notable roles,including Inuyasha in Inuyasha and L in Death Note. He currently voices Shinichi Kudo and Kaito Kid in Detective Conan,Usopp in One Piece and Teddie in Persona 4. He is married and has a son,Ryunosuke,and a daughter,Akane. Ryunosuke and Akane are also voice actors,while the latter is also a rakugoka.
Mitsuru Adachi is a Japanese manga artist. After graduating from Gunma Prefectural Maebashi Commercial High School in 1969,Adachi worked as an assistant for Isami Ishii. He made his manga debut in 1970 with Kieta Bakuon,based on a manga originally created by Satoru Ozawa. Kieta was published in Deluxe Shōnen Sunday.
Tomohiro Nishimura is a Japanese actor,voice actor,singer-songwriter,theatre director and sound director. He used to be employed by the talent management firm 81 Produce,but today he is freelance. He is often mixed up with Tomomichi Nishimura.

Tsutomu Adachi was a Japanese manga artist born in Isesaki City,Gunma Prefecture,Japan,and the older brother of Mitsuru Adachi. Tsutomu was an assistant to Fujio Akatsuka,and was known as one of the "Four Protegés of Akatsuka". According to his younger brother,his definitive works include Jitsuroku Adachi Mitsuru Monogatari,Nigun no Hoshi Hanpa-kun and Tamagawa-kun.

Osomatsu-kun is a comedy manga series by Fujio Akatsuka which ran in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine from 1962 to 1969. The series revolves around a group of sextuplet brothers who cause all sorts of mischief. It has been adapted into two different anime series of the same name,the first of which was produced by Studio Zero in 1966,and the second by Studio Pierrot in 1988. A new anime series by Pierrot,Mr. Osomatsu,began airing in October 2015 to celebrate Akatsuka's 80th birthday,with a manga adaptation by Masako Shitara serialized in Shueisha's You magazine from January 2016.
Hiroshi Masuoka was a Japanese actor,voice actor and narrator from Minami,Saitama Prefecture,Japan. He voiced the roles of Masuo Fuguta in Sazae-san and Jam Ojisan in Soreike! Anpanman. He also voiced Kame-Sennin during the last episodes of Dragon Ball Z and all of Dragon Ball GT,following Kōhei Miyauchi's death. He worked for the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society until his death in 2020.
Shima Shima Tora No Shimajirō is a 1993 Japanese children's slice of life anime series primarily aimed at preschoolers and animated by Pierrot Plus based on the Kodomo Challenge Educational Learning Program created by Benesse in 1988. It is created and directed by veteran director Hisayuki Toriumi and character designs by Shigehito Tsuji. Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Miki Yoshikawa. It was serialized in Kodansha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Magazine from February 2012 to February 2017,with its chapters collected in 28 tankōbon volumes. The series was published digitally in English by Crunchyroll starting in 2013 and was licensed in North America by Kodansha USA in 2015.
Barakamon (ばらかもん) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Satsuki Yoshino. It was serialized on Square Enix's Gangan Online website from February 2009 to December 2018. The story follows Seishu Handa,a calligrapher who moves to the remote GotōIslands off the western coast of Kyūshū,and his various interactions with the people of the island. An anime adaptation by Kinema Citrus aired in Japan between July and September 2014. Funimation has licensed the series for streaming and home video release. In February 2014,Yen Press announced they have licensed Barakamon for English release in North America. The manga resumed limited serialization in Monthly Shōnen Gangan from April to September 2023.
Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless is a Japanese slice of life comedy shōnen web manga series written and illustrated by Nozomi Uda. It was published by Square Enix,being serialized on the Gangan Online website from July 2013 to July 2019. Thirteen volumes have been released as of September 2019. Fumio Hisamatsu was a Japanese manga artist and character designer who frequently worked with TCJ in the 1960s and illustrated manga adaptations of their television series. In particular he created the manga for Super Jetter as well as serving as the anime's character designer. He also did the character designs for TCJ's Adventure on Gaboten Island. Hisamatsu wanted to be a manga artist since he was in third grade,and began writing manga in junior high school. His first work was Earth Crisis and was also his professional debut. He was an assistant to Osamu Tezuka.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 also known as Loving Yamada at Lv999! is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mashiro. An anime television series adaptation produced by Madhouse aired from April to June 2023.
