Berg founded the Executive Director of the Area Agency on Aging serving Humboldt and Del Norte Counties for 19 years. While there, she grew the agency from a staff of 4 and a budget of $300,000 to 25 employees and a multimillion-dollar budget. Berg was a regional leader advocating for policy change in Sacramento and Washington, DC on issues related to aging.
In 1993, she wrote the Humboldt County Crime Prevention Plan and chaired its first Crime Commission. Berg then worked in partnership with law enforcement taking a number of steps to make local citizens safer.
Berg has a history as an advocate for women's rights and a woman's right to choose. In 1982, she helped found "CHOICES" Humboldt County's first pro-choice Political Action Committee. She also developed California's first K-12 comprehensive family life education curriculum in 1980, which was implemented in 80% of Humboldt County School Districts. Patty designed and taught a course through Humboldt State University to teachers and parents who adopted the curriculum. The training module was published and distributed nationally.
Berg retired from the Area Agency on Aging in 1999 and later that year, ran the campaign preventing Wal-Mart from building on the coast.
Del Norte County is a county at the far northwest corner of the U.S. state of California, along the Pacific Ocean adjacent to the Oregon border. Its population is 27,743 as of the 2020 census, down from 28,610 from the 2010 census. The county seat and only incorporated city is Crescent City. Del Norte was pioneered and populated by Azorean Portuguese settlers and dairy farmers, which may account for the local pronunciation of the county name. Locals pronounce the county name as Del Nort, not Del Nor-teh as would be expected in Spanish.

Phillip L. Isenberg was an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he was mayor of Sacramento, California, from 1975 to 1982. He also served in the California State Assembly from 1982 to 1996. He represented the city of Sacramento and surrounding areas.

Philip Yu-Li Ting is an American politician currently serving in the California State Assembly. He is a Democrat representing the 19th Assembly District, which encompasses western San Francisco and northwestern San Mateo County. Prior to being elected to the Assembly in 2012, he was the Assessor-Recorder of San Francisco.

Kristin Olsen is an American business owner and politician. She served on the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors from 2017 to 2021. From 2010 to 2016 she served in the California State Assembly representing the 12th district and serving as the Assembly Minority Leader. Prior to being elected to the State Assembly, she was a member of the Modesto City Council. Olsen is a Republican and lives in Riverbank.

He is a Democrat representing the 2nd Assembly District, which encompasses all of Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity counties, plus northern and coastal Sonoma County, including the northern half of Santa Rosa.
Thomas W. Lackey is an American teacher, law enforcement officer and politician currently serving in the California State Assembly. He is a Republican representing the 34th district, encompassing parts of Antelope Valley, Victor Valley, the San Bernardino Mountains, and the Mojave Desert including Barstow and Twentynine Palms to the Nevada state line. Patty López is a Mexican-American politician and former member of the California State Assembly, representing the 39th district, encompassing parts of the San Fernando Valley. She is a Democrat. Prior to being elected to the Assembly, she was a community representative for the North Valley Occupational Center-Aviation Center.
