Wesley P. Chesbro (born August 20,1951) is an American Democratic politician from California. He was an assemblymember for the 2nd district,encompassing the North Coast. Previously,Chesbro served as the Assembly member from California's 1st district from 2008 until 2012. He has also served as a member of the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
Chesbro was an early leader in the recycling movement having founded the Arcata Recycling Center in 1971. The Arcata Recycling Center was one of California's oldest and most successful recycling operations. [2] He has also served as a Humboldt County Supervisor and an Arcata city councilmember.
Chesbro was term-limited in 2006 and was replaced by Pat Wiggins. On January 5,2007,Chesbro was appointed by the California State Senate Rules Committee to serve again on the California Integrated Waste Management Board. [3] On January 12,2007,State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell announced the appointment of Chesbro to the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. [4]
On February 8,2008,Chesbro announced he would run in the November 2008 election to replace term-limited Patty Berg in California's 1st assembly district. [5] He was successful,winning with 70.5% of the vote over Republican Jim Pell. [6]
Arcata is a city adjacent to the Arcata Bay (northern) portion of Humboldt Bay in Humboldt County,California,United States. At the 2020 census,Arcata's population was 18,857. Arcata was first founded in 1850 as Union,was officially established in 1858,and was renamed Arcata in 1860. It is located 280 miles (450 km) north of San Francisco,and is home to California State Polytechnic University,Humboldt. Arcata is also the location of the Arcata Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Land Management,which is responsible for the administration of natural resources,lands and mineral programs,including the Headwaters Forest,on approximately 200,000 acres (810 km2) of public land in Northwestern California.
Phillip Chen is an American politician and member of the California State Assembly. He is a Republican representing the 59th Assembly District,encompassing parts of North Orange County,and small parts of San Bernardino County. In November 2004,voters in the U.S. state of California passed Proposition 63,the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA),which has been designed to expand and transform California's county mental health service systems. The MHSA is funded by imposing an additional one percent tax on individual,but not corporate,taxable income in excess of one million dollars. In becoming law in January 2005,the MHSA represents the latest in a Californian legislative movement,begun in the 1990s,to provide better coordinated and more comprehensive care to those with serious mental illness,particularly in underserved populations. Its claim of successes thus far,such as with the development of innovative and integrated Full Service Partnerships (FSPs),are not without detractors who highlight many problems but especially a lack of oversight,large amount of unspent funds,poor transparency,lack of engagement in some communities,and a lack of adherence to required reporting as challenges MHSA implementation must overcome to fulfill the law's widely touted potential.
Lori R. Saldaña is an American politician from San Diego,California. She is a former member of the California State Assembly from the 76th Assembly district. She served from 2004 to 2010,when term limits prevented her from seeking re-election. She served as a Democrat.

O'Connell was unable to run for a third term in 2010 due to term limits and was succeeded by former state assemblyman Tom Torlakson.
