Pavel is an Indian film director and screenplay writer who primarily works in Bengali-language films. [1] He made his debut with the film Babar Naam Gandhiji , which was followed by Rosogolla. His next film, Asur , was released on 3 January 2020, [2] [3] with Jeet, Abir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan. [4]

He has also worked as an illustrator of book covers and has illustrated books by Nabarun Bhattacharya; Bhattacharjee made a documentary about Nabarun after his death titled Poet from Death Valley.

Early life

He has attended Kalighat High school & Mukul Bose memorial institution for schooling and went to Calcutta University for Bechalor's and master's degree in history. Besides studying in school, he was a very active participant in recitation, debate, quiz and drama.

His first acting assignment was Bishabriksha (1994–95), a Bengali TV series directed by Bishnu Palchaudhuri. He made his big screen debut with Chandu (2001), a Telugu film. His first success came in 2002, opposite Priyanka Trivedi, through Sathi, a highly successful romantic drama, directed by Haranath Chakraborty, for which he won the Bengal Film Journalists' Association – Most Promising Actor Award and Anandalok Awards for Best Actor. Inspector Notty K is a 2018 Bengali language romantic comedy film, directed by Ashok Pati and produced by Jeet, Nispal Singh, Gopal Madnani, Amit Jumrani, Joydeep Roy Chowdhury and Abdul Aziz. It is a remake of the 2013 Punjabi film Jatt & Juliet 2 starring Diljit Dosanjh. Jeet as the titular character alongside Nusrat Faria, the two starring in their third film together after Badsha – The Don (2016) and Boss 2: Back to Rule (2017).

<i>Asur</i> (film) 2020 Indian Bengali-language film by Pavel Bhattacharjee

Asur is a 2020 Indian Bengali-language romantic action thriller film written and directed by Pavel Bhattacharjee. According to the director, it is a tribute to the sculptor Ramkinkar Baij, but the storyline is inspired from the 2015 Deshopriyo Park Durga Pujo, which made us visualize world's first ever largest Durga Idol. The action sequences are designed by Sunil Rodrigues and Md. Amin Khatib. Originally set to release in December 2019, the film was released on 3 January 2020.

Ujaan Ganguly is an Indian film and theatre actor. He made his debut in Rosogolla (2018) directed by Pavel and was named as one of the top 10 actors of 2019. He was also adjudged the Best Debut Actor at the Tele Cine Awards and the North American Bengali Conference Film Festival, at Baltimore, 2019.
