The Pee Dee Vipers are a professional basketball team playing in the Premier Basketball League. The Vipers will begin play in the 2014 PBL season.

Premier Basketball League sports league

The Premier Basketball League, often abbreviated to the PBL, was an American professional men's basketball minor league that began play in January 2008. The league folded after the 2017 season, with The Basketball League as a successor league. In the past, there have been teams also in Canada and Puerto Rico. The league season operated from January to April.

History

The Vipers are the first professional basketball team to play in Florence since the Florence Flyers of the USBL played there in 2004. [1] In their inaugural season, the Vipers will be coached by Larry Brown, a veteran high school and college coach. [2]

The United States Basketball League, often abbreviated to the USBL, was a professional men's spring basketball league. The league was formed in 1985.

Larry Brown (basketball) American basketball coach and former player

Lawrence Harvey Brown is an American basketball coach and former player who was most recently the head coach for Auxilium Torino of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) and EuroCup Basketball. Brown is the only coach in basketball history to win both an NCAA national championship and an NBA title. He has a 1,275-965 lifetime professional coaching record in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is the only coach in NBA history to lead eight teams to the playoffs. He also won an ABA championship as a player with the Oakland Oaks in the 1968–69 season, and an Olympic Gold Medal in 1964. He is also the only person ever to coach two NBA franchises in the same season. Before coaching, Brown played collegiately at the University of North Carolina and professionally in the ABA.

Florence Center architectural structure

The Florence Center is a 10,000-seat multipurpose arena in Florence, South Carolina. The arena was known as the Florence Civic Center until it rebranded in January 2018.

Germane L. Crowell is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League. In the 1998 NFL draft, Crowell was selected in the second round by the Detroit Lions. He played five seasons for the Lions from 1998 until 2002. He is the older brother of NFL linebacker Angelo Crowell.

Jennings Bryan "Ears" Whitworth was an American football player and coach of football and baseball. He served as the head football coach at Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College—now known as Oklahoma State University–Stillwater—from 1950 to 1954 and the University of Alabama from 1955 to 1957, compiling a career college football coaching record of 26–51–4. Whitworth also coached baseball at Alabama from 1933 to 1934 and the University of Georgia in 1943, tallying a career college baseball coaching mark of 22–21.

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers are an American professional basketball team of the NBA G League. They play their home games at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas. With three D-League titles in 2010, 2013, and 2019, the Vipers are the most successful team in the league.

Grailey Hewett "Grady" "Big Hig" Higginbotham was an American football and baseball player, coach of football, basketball, and baseball, and college athletics administrator. He was the first head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders men's basketball team, leading it to a 14–18 record from 1925 to 1927. Higginbotham coached the Red Raiders baseball team to a 10–17 record from 1928 to 1929. He was also the head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team in 1929, tallying a mark of 1–7–2. He was the athletic director at Texas Tech from 1927 to 1929. Higginbotham played college football and college baseball at Texas A&M University. After graduating, he played in minor league baseball or several years. He was the older brother of Roswell G. Higginbotham, who also played at Texas A&M and became a college baseball coach.

Todd Rucci is a former professional American football player who played guard for eight seasons in the National Football League from 1993 to 1999. He was a starter in Super Bowl XXXI for the New England Patriots. Rucci graduated in 1988 from Upper Darby High School where he also excelled at the shot put and discus on the track team. Todd was in the same High School Class as Bill Jensen and Tina Fey.

The Suburban Conference is a Missouri State High School Activities Association recognized high school extracurricular league which includes 32 schools located in the suburbs of St. Louis. The conference comprises mostly schools in St. Louis County but also a handful from Jefferson County. Because of the large number of teams in suburban St. Louis, the conference is split up geographically into three sub-conferences, each divided into two divisions. The new divisions went into effect prior to the 2014-15 season. Prior to then, the schools were split into four conferences.
