Pengiran Maidin bin Pengiran Haji Hashim (born 13 March 1951) [1] is a retired Brunei an diplomat who formerly held the position of permanent representative of Brunei to the United Nations from 1997 to 1998, high commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2006 to 2010, and ambassador to Germany in 1994.
At Tufts University in the United States' Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Pengiran Maidin graduated with a Master of Arts (MA) in 1990. A Bachelor of Science (BSc) in economics from Hull University in 1976 and a certificate in diplomacy from Oxford University in the United Kingdom in 1984. [2]
Pengiran Maidin started his work at the government's Economic Planning Unit in 1976 as an administrative officer. Later, beginning in 1977, he was the Tutong District Assistant District Officer for Brunei. He had worked his way up to become deputy controller in the Royal Customs and Excise Department by 1982; he had served in that capacity since 1979. [2]
Pengiran Maidin had several important roles in the Brunei Foreign Ministry (MFA). From August 1992 to September 1994, he was the Foreign Minister's private secretary. He has had a number of positions in the ministry, such as director of the Political Department (1990–1992) and director general of the ASEAN Department (1986– 1989). [2]
Since September 1994 he has represented his nation as an ambassador to Germany; since September 1996, he has also represented his country as a non-resident ambassador to the Russian Federation. On 6 August 1997 Pengiran Maidin, the newly appointed permanent representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations, gave Secretary-General Kofi Annan his letters of credence. He was well-suited for his new role because to his vast experience and academic background. [2] Upon completing his tenure in 1998, he served as the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance [3] [4] and later chair of the Public Service Commission (PSC). [5]
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah gave his permission on 8 March 2006, to hand over credentials to Pengiran Maidin the recently appointed Brunei high commissioner to the United Kingdom. [6] [4]
Pengiran Maidin was born on 13 March 1951. He is married and has five kids. [2]

Bendahara was an administrative position within classical Malay kingdoms comparable to a vizier before the intervention of European powers during the 19th century. A bendahara was appointed by a sultan and was a hereditary post. The bendahara and the sultan shared the same lineage.

Pengiran Anak Mohamed Alam was a nobleman, magistrate, and politician who served as the fourth Speaker of the Legislative Council from 1971 to 1974, and as the Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara from 1954 to 1981. A member of the Bruneian royal family, he was the father of Pengiran Anak Saleha, the queen consort of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. He was also the maternal grandfather of Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince of Brunei.
Pengiran Muhammad Yusuf bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahim, pen name Yura Halim, was a Bruneian nobleman, politician, civil servant, diplomat, and writer. He served as the Menteri Besar of Brunei from 1967 to 1972. He wrote the lyrics for Brunei's national anthem, "Allah Peliharakan Sultan," in 1947. The song was adopted as the country's official national anthem in 1951, when it was still a British protectorate. He was longtime member of the Legislative Council of Brunei, serving on the council until his death in 2016.

Pengiran Abdul Momin bin Pengiran Haji Ismail was a Bruneian nobleman, magistrate, politician and diplomat who held various key roles in the government throughout his distinguished career. He served as the 4th Menteri Besar of Brunei and later represented Brunei on the international stage as high commissioner to multiple countries, including Malaysia, India, China, and the United States. His contributions to Brunei's development were significant, particularly in areas of education, traditional arts, and agricultural advancements. In his later years, he was appointed as a member of the Legislative Council, continuing his public service until his passing in 2008.
Pengiran Anak Puteh, also referred to as Pengiran Puteh Alam, is a Bruneian nobleman, arbitrator and diplomat as the ambassador of Brunei to the United States from 1997 to 2009, and Japan in 1986. As the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he participated in the formulation of policy regarding matters pertaining to international law, the South China Sea dispute, and the land and marine frontiers of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. His areas of expertise include international commercial arbitration, sports arbitration, investment arbitration, and international law.
Pengiran Muhammad Ali bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad Daud, commonly known as Pengiran Ali, was a Bruneian nobleman, teacher, and politician. He served as the first Deputy Menteri Besar from 1962 to 1965 and was a member of the Legislative, Executive, and Privy Councils. Pengiran Ali played a pivotal role in Brunei's history, particularly during the 1950s and 1960s. He was the first of the "three M's" feared by the British government, alongside Pengiran Muhammad Yusuf and Marsal Maun. He was also the father-in-law of Princess Amal Nasibah, daughter of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III.
Pengiran Muda Hashim was a Bruneian nobleman and politician who held several significant positions, including membership in the Privy Council, Legislative Council, and the Brunei Islamic Religious Council. As a member of the Bruneian royal family, he was the husband to Pengiran Anak Puteri (Princess) Besar, the daughter of Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam II. He was named Wazir in 1952 and served on the executive committee for the coronation ceremony of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, acting as Sultan during the late Sultan's foreign tours.
Pengiran Anak Idris is a Bruneian nobleman and member of the royal family who became the prince consort to Princess Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam in 1972, the daughter of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III. He is the current Chief of Jabatan Adat Istiadat Negara, a member of the Privy Council of Brunei, and assistant chairman of Adat Istiadat Council, and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah's board of governors.
