The Penn State Cancer Institute is a cancer research center of the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center located in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The Institute provides clinical care, research, education, and community outreach services throughout central and eastern Pennsylvania. The Penn State Cancer Institute is led by Dr. Raymond J. Hohl, who joined in 2014 from the University of Iowa.
In July 2009, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute opened the doors to its new state-of-the-art, 178,000-square-foot (16,500 m2) freestanding building located on the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus. The region's only comprehensive cancer center offers access to internationally recognized cancer specialists and scientists delivering a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, patient-friendly facilities, and up-to-date medical technology. The facility helps position the Cancer Institute to earn a National Cancer Institute designation–the hallmark accreditation for academic cancer centers. The new facility is intended to integrate research and care with the educational mission of the Medical Center, and includes clinical space, laboratories, radiation and chemotherapy facilities, and administrative offices. Researchers and caregivers will be more closely connected, and will have the resources for strategic partnerships with scientists at Penn State's other campuses. To complement funding through federal and state grants, borrowing, and Medical Center reserves, the Cancer Institute is seeking to raise $65 million in philanthropy. [3]

The Erlanger Health System, incorporated as the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital Authority, a non-profit, public benefit corporation registered in the State of Tennessee, is a system of hospitals, physicians, and medical services based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Erlanger's main location, Erlanger Baroness Hospital, is a tertiary referral hospital and Level I Trauma Center serving a 50,000 sq mi (130,000 km2) region of East Tennessee, North Georgia, North Alabama, and western North Carolina. The system provides critical care services to patients within a 150 mi (240 km) radius through six Life Force air ambulance helicopters, which are equipped to perform in-flight surgical procedures and transfusions.
The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, commonly referred to as "West Penn Hospital", is located at 4800 Friendship Avenue in the Bloomfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The 317-bed hospital is part of the Allegheny Health Network. It serves as a clinical campus of the Drexel and LECOM schools of medicine, and also educates physicians through its large number of residency and fellowship programs. The UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, previously the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center located in the Hillman Cancer Center in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, adjacent to UPMC Shadyside. The only NCI-designated cancer center in Western Pennsylvania, Hillman is composed of collaborative academic and research efforts between the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), and Carnegie Mellon University. Hillman provides clinical cancer care to some 74,000 patients treated at its facilities at both the Hillman Cancer Center location in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh and at UPMC-affiliated sites throughout Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and overseas locations. Founded in 1984, Hillman became the youngest cancer center in history to achieve NCI-designation. As of 2007, Hillman had received nearly $200 million in funding from the National Cancer Institute, which ranks it as one of the top ten cancer research institutes.
