Peter Lupton (born 7 March 1982) is a professional rugby footballer who plays and coaches rugby league for the Boston Thirteens in the North American Rugby League competition.
Lupton began his career playing rugby league as a loose forward , second-row , stand-off, or scrum-half in England and Wales. He earned selection in the Welsh national team after qualifying through 3-years residency, and later captained the team at the 2014 European Cup. Lupton moved to Boston, United States,[ year needed ] [3] and played rugby union professionally and rugby league as an amateur. He was named player-coach of the Boston Thirteens for their first season as a semi-professional club in 2021.
Lupton was born in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England.
He has previously played for Workington Town in Championship 1 and Crusaders in the Super League.
Whilst playing for the Castleford Tigers and the Crusaders, he played centre , stand-off , scrum-half or loose forward.
Lupton has previously played for the London Broncos and Hull FC.
In March 2015, Lupton signed with the Barrow Raiders
In 2016, Lupton joined the Boston 13s in the USA Rugby League. He was named as coach in 2017, [4] continuing the role in 2021 as the club joined the inaugural North American Rugby League season and turned semi-professional. [5]
In the fall of 2018, Lupton signed with the New England Free Jacks in the MLR.
Lupton was named in the Welsh squad for the 2011 Four Nations, qualifying on 3-years residency. [6] [7] He made his début in a warm-up match against Ireland, but did not feature in the tournament.
Lupton played for Wales at the 2013 World Cup, and captained the side at the 2014 European Cup in the absence of Craig Kopczak. [8] In that tournament, Lupton captained the Welsh side in losses against Scotland, France, and Ireland.
On 1 Mar 2024 he was named in the United States team for the test against Canada staged in Las Vegas on 3 Mar 2024 [9] In November of 2024, Lupton was named in the United States team for a two-test tour of South Africa. [10]
Iestyn Rhys Harris is a former dual-code international professional rugby league and rugby union footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s, and coach in rugby league in the 2000s and 2010s. He played representative rugby league for Great Britain and Wales, and at club level for the Warrington Wolves, the Leeds Rhinos (captain) where he won the 1998 Man of Steel Award, the Bradford Bulls (captain), and Featherstone Rovers, and representative rugby union for Wales, and at club level for Cardiff RFC and Cardiff Blues, and has coached representative rugby league for Wales, and at club level for Featherstone Rovers, the Crusaders Rugby League, the Wigan Warriors, and Salford Red Devils.
Gavin Lloyd Henson is a Welsh former professional rugby union player, who played as a fly-half, fullback and inside centre.
Dwayne John Peel is a Welsh rugby union coach and former player. He was the most capped scrum-half for the Wales national rugby union team with 76 caps, until his record was surpassed by Mike Phillips on 16 March 2013.
Craig Gower is an Italian-Australian former professional rugby league and rugby union footballer who played in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. He is a dual-code rugby international, having played rugby league for Australia and rugby union for Italy. A New South Wales State of Origin and Australian Kangaroos representative halfback or hooker, he played in the National Rugby League for Sydney club the Penrith Panthers. Gower then switched rugby union, playing for French Top 14 side Bayonne, and through grandparentage represented Italy. He returned to rugby league with the London Broncos in the Super League and then finished his playing career with one more National Rugby League season at the Newcastle Knights.
